About me

Welcome. I am a counsellor and trauma therapist based in Edinburgh. I currently provide one-to-one online therapy sessions via Zoom.

How Counselling & Psychotherapy can help:

I offer psychodynamic counselling, which is a traditional talking therapy. This form of therapy is useful in thinking about and reflecting upon feelings, thoughts, behaviours and patterns that may be causing you discomfort or distress.

Psychodynamic therapy can help you to understand the influence of your earlier experiences on your present issues, ways of coping and patterns of relating. These insights can lead to greater self-awareness, healthier relationships with yourself and others, and the emergence of new ways of being and responding.

It can be beneficial in dealing with specific issues such as addiction, anger, anxiety, depression, loss and childhood trauma, as well as less clearly defined issues such as difficulties in forming or maintaining close relationships, and feeling lost or stuck in life. It is well-suited to those who are self-reflective and committed to their own personal growth and development.

How Trauma therapy can help:

I offer a form of trauma therapy called the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM).

Trauma can leave us feeling deeply wounded, helpless and hopeless, anxious, fearful, angry, ashamed and distrustful. Or you may struggle to feel anything at all, becoming numb, disconnected from others and detached from yourself. And one part of you may feel quite differently to another part of you.

Comprehensive Resource Model is a structured approach to trauma recovery that draws upon body-based grounding techniques, rhythmic breathing sequences and internal resourcing to create a sense of embodied containment, prior to processing trauma.

It can work gently but powerfully to heal the emotional and somatic legacy of trauma and foster a deep sense of intrapersonal connection and integration. It is particularly helpful in working with anger, anxiety, attachment issues, complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), ‘parts’ of self, phobias, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Making an Initial Appointment:

Embarking on therapy is often daunting and while the process of growth, personal change and healing is extremely rewarding it can also be very challenging. It is therefore important to engage in a therapeutic relationship that feels right for you. An initial assessment session gives us the opportunity to get to know one another and decide if we would like to work together. If we agree to proceed we would meet at the same place and time each week for a 50-minute session.

If you would like to find out more or are considering booking an appointment, I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and insured, BACP-registered, counsellor and psychotherapist. I trained in both the psychodynamic and person-centred approaches at the University of Edinburgh. I really care about helping people to heal from trauma, which inspired me to undertake additional trauma-specific training in the Comprehensive Resource Model.

I am committed to evolving and developing as a practitioner and I therefore engage in regular supervision, undertake a variety of CPD activities and invest in my own personal and professional development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
