Suzanne O'Riordan PgDip, MBACP
Finding the right counsellor for you is important, but it can also be a daunting task. Maybe you haven’t opened up to anyone before and fear sounding silly or being judged? Or perhaps you are struggling to make sense of it all and don’t know where to start? I will do my best to reassure you as you take those first steps. I offer a reduced rate for the first session, so we can meet each other, discuss what you are looking for from counselling and decide whether we might work well together.
As a qualified, person-centred, counsellor and psychotherapist (BACP registered), I can offer you a safe, confidential space to talk about the situation you have been struggling with and explore your thoughts and feelings. Being heard and feeling understood can be a powerful experience and I am trained to listen and to support you through this process. The relationship we build is where the therapy happens; we will work together to help you gain better understanding and new perspectives, to make positive changes in your life and to find your own way forward.
I work with adults (18+) from a mix of backgrounds. My previous experience includes counselling roles within a university student counselling service; a general counselling service and; a trauma support service where I have helped clients with a range of issues such as; anxiety and depression; confidence and self-esteem issues; dealing with loss and change; relationship issues or family problems; search for self and identity issues; sexuality; life transitions etc. I enjoy working with those seeking to understand themselves better and can offer brief and longer-term therapy depending on your specific needs.
I have a longstanding background in the provision of person-centred services with over 12 years experience in social care, supporting adults with disabilities to find their voices and lead fulfilling lives. I embrace diversity and welcome enquiries from all sections of society including those who experience themselves as a minority.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually weekly at the same time and place. I work from premises in both central Edinburgh and in Portobello.
Call me today to book your first appointment. If I’m not immediately available, I will get back to you as soon as I can, usually within 24 hours
