About me
Hello. To decide to begin counselling is to take a very courageous step. Choosing a counsellor who you feel you can relate to can seem like a big decision to have to make. And it is important, as our relationship is central to the work we will do together. Our first meeting will give you the time and space to decide.
My training is person-centred, the basis for which is to offer genuine warmth and acceptance in our relationship. As your counsellor, I will listen to you in confidence without judging in any way. Being understood and accepted in this way develops your trust in our relationship. It feels safer then for you to express your thoughts and feelings and so to begin to clarify your situation, to gain insight and to heal emotionally.
Soon you will be aware of how much power already resides within you and, during counselling, you will be encouraged to trust in this intuitive ability to know what is best for you. There is no agenda except your own, so you need have no fear about being coerced into anything for which you are not yet ready.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained as a person-centred counsellor and I am registered with BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and abide by their Code of Ethics. I work from a person-centred approach and where it is appropriate for the client I integrate other approaches, which might include T.A. (Transactional Analysis) and C.B.T. (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.)
Since 1993, I have worked with individuals and couples in a variety of counselling contexts including student counselling, Practice Counsellor for a GP surgery and in private practice in England and France.
I teach Counselling Skills and Personal Development including Self-awareness, Increasing Confidence and Self-esteem and also Assertiveness Skills. I also work as a life coach.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

How can you get started with counselling?
If you would like to discuss anything or if you have any questions, please get in touch either by phone or e-mail. If I am not in, you can leave a message and I'll get straight back to you.
If you decide you would like to meet, we can then arrange a mutually convenient time for you to come to my home. We will spend approx 50 minutes together, during which time I can answer any questions you might have and we can talk about what you might want from counselling.
If you are happy to continue we will arrange a second session and agree on how often we will meet.
If you should decide you do not want to go any further with counselling, there will be no charge for this first meeting. If you do want to continue with counselling there will be a reduced charge for this session.
