Susannah Newell, MBACP, Dip.Con.
I can help you work through whatever you’re struggling with. Together we develop an understanding of your situation including the obstacles currently blocking your path. This frees you up to move them; to be more self-aware and self-compassionate; to better understand your emotions, relationships and repeating patterns of behaviour; and to live more fully and authentically, and less from a sense of who you've always felt you should be.
Counselling offers a safe, non-judgmental space to share your current load rather than carrying your troubles alone. In sharing with your counsellor what you can't say out there in the world, you may well feel more understood, more known for who you truly are behind the world-facing persona we all have and better able to cope with life. Be you in crisis, struggling with difficult circumstances, emotions or relationships, or wishing to feel more alive, working things through with an empathic, trained professional unconnected to your life can be liberating.
As we are all unique, I don’t offer ‘one size fits all’ counselling. Rather I work integratively: drawing on different therapeutic approaches to best meet your individual needs. I work with many presenting problems like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, abuse, life transitions and living with illness. I have particular experience in bereavement and other losses, the challenges of parenthood, including miscarriage, and relationship issues.
I work with clients for as long as they need me. This can be short-term, which is usually a minimum of 10 sessions, or long-term. We discuss possible duration and what you'd like to get out of counselling at our initial consultation. This first meeting is a good opportunity for us to get a sense of each other and how we might work together. Should you wish to continue seeing me, we agree a weekly slot of 50 minutes which becomes yours. I can on occasion see clients more flexibly if their personal circumstances require it.
I work privately from my practice in Cheltenham. I offer off-road parking. I am 15 minutes walking distance from the town centre or am easily reached by bus, with a stop nearby. I do not have a waiting room and so cannot cater for early arrivals I am afraid.
How to begin
I know from my own experiences of being in therapy that it can sometimes feel daunting, so I offer a free 10-minute telephone call to hear what’s troubling you and to arrange meeting for a first session. Please contact me by phone or via email.
