I work as a sole trader offering counselling, psychotherapy, supervision (both group and individual) and training . Additionally I work for a charity as a private sessional psychotherapist who offer services to clients who have experienced trauma. I am also a paid employee ( 22.5 hours per week) of an organisation who work with people who have been impacted by alcohol and drug misuse. As well as holding a caseload of clients within this organisation,I am responsible for recruiting and supervising counsellors on placement. I began my counselling career as a volunteer in 1994 and have been practicing ever since working with a wide variety of problematic issues.
I have experience in working therapeutically with individuals, couples and groups and utilise my range of skills as appropriate to individual need. I am a naturally empathic person who aims to develop honest and open working relations with people who want to talk about their life difficulties with the aim of supporting them to lead a more fulfilling and satisfying life. I offer a free 30 minute initial meeting in which we can decide whether we want to work together after which sessions are one hour long.
I provide supervision for individuals and groups as well as offering continued professional development (CPD) workshops for therapists and other professionals who need yearly training hours to maintain accreditation (see website).
I was the lead trainer on a two year course leading to a Level 3 Certificate in Alcohol/Drugs Counselling and have been part of a team of trainers delivering a degree course in integrative counselling accredited by Hull University

My approach and experience
I use an integrative approach when working with people by utilising particular aspects of my training as and when appropriate.
I have an established private practice as a Psychotherapist and Supervisor and work with individuals, couples and groups within the town centre. I am registered with a number of employee assisted programmes (EAP's) and get some of my referrals via them. I offer short term and long term therapy, dependent on the needs of the person/s. I feel strongly that all human beings have the necessary resources to lead a full and satisfying life, if they are prepared to engage in the work. I enjoy working with people who want to deepen their awareness about who they are and how they present themselves on a daily basis.
I have also worked for a local charity for 18 years, with adults who have experienced problems with alcohol and drugs. It is always the underlying issues that are central to the therapy therefore I have a wide range of experience in working with issues such as; physical, psychological and sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, stress and anger issues, eating disorders, relationship problems, HIV, abortion, trauma, domestic violence, dual diagnosis, personality disorders, couples therapy etc. I am currently senior counsellor there and am responsible for the management, supervision and training of all volunteer counsellors who are on placement.
