About me

At some point in our life most of us can feel uncertain at times of who we are, where we are going and can lose a sense of self, this in turn can lead to feelings of uncertainty of the future, and increase feelings of anxiousness, loneliness, fear, and even despair, which in some circumstances lead us to feel a loss of control in our daily life and in turn  impacts on how we live our life in the present. If you are experiencing any of these feelings and are struggling with daily life  why not pick up the phone or e-mail because you do not have to experience this alone.

  • These feelings you maybe experiencing can relate with  Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety, Health Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Low Self Esteem, Relationship Difficulties i.e. a breakdown in a relationship separation/divorce, Bereavement, Stress, Trauma, Family issues, difficulties with our children, behavioural issues, Adoption, addictions whether these maybe drug/alcohol or gambling, issues with Anger, the list is never ending as everyone's experience is individual to them. At these difficult times in our lives counselling can prove beneficial with the comfort of knowing confidentiality and not feeling judged is very important and often helps us to feel safer when sharing things which often are very painful and difficult to share elsewhere.

I have many years of experience with adults, individual or as a couple, adolescents and children, and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy abiding to their ethics at all times part of which being regular supervision enabling myself to gain greater guidance on how best to work in your best interests and ongoing training.
  • I also am an Approved Link-Barnardo's Adoption Therapist working mainly in the field of Attachment.
I work using CBT enabling you to change negative thoughts into a more positive way of thinking/behaving which is mainly for short term counselling and has proven beneficial for mild-moderate depression,  anxiety, panic attacks and OCD, Mindfulness, helping you live your life in a more fuller complete way by being in the present moment, instead of the past or future.  Or longer term psychotherapy  maybe more beneficial where maybe your past experiences are having an impact on the way you are living your life now in the present, we can't change our past however we can choose to change how we live our lives and the choices we choose to make in the present.

I studied at South Essex College, Basildon where I gained my Diploma completing my placement and bereavement training at St. Francis Hospice, Havering-atte-Bower where through volunteering I gained experience of working with the family members who had suffered a loss through cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. I then continued with St. Francis for a further two years after qualifying gaining further experience in bereavement with individuals and  families who had suffered a loss.

My further voluntary work was with Open Door, Grays where I worked with adolescents on a one-one basis who presented low self esteem, self harm, eating disorders, poor attendance school/college, relationship breakdowns, drug/alcohol problems, peer pressure and bullying.

Bereavement is where I began my career as a Counsellor at St. Francis Hospice, where I gained experience and insight into the many different forms of loss and the impact this can have on our daily life.

However from this my clients have come and remain to do so with many different issues and in doing so I have since and continuously gain greater experience in many different areas i.e. Relationship Difficulties, either as a couple or as a family, adoption, family issues, Anxiety, Trauma, Mild-Moderate Depression, Low Self Esteem, Panic Attacks, OCD, Eating Disorders, Domestic Abuse, Grief/Loss, Bullying in the school and Work Place, Behavioural/Anger Issues, Stress Work Related/Personal  Addictions, Alcohol/Drugs, Marital Issues, Gender Issues, and any other issue you may be struggling with at this current time.

A lot of my work is family based where I work as an Adoption Counsellor for Link- Barnardos working in the field of Attachment/Life Work working with parents/children who have or are experiencing often great trauma in their lives, prior to adoption and can at times struggle with their own identity.
I also offer Relationship Counselling where there maybe issues relating to communication problems/or a betrayal my role in this situation is to facilitate an environment where together you can work through what maybe having an impact on the relationship you maybe once had and would like to re-establish again.

My continuing professional development is ongoing which is where I attend various different workshops/programmes   i.e. Barnardos, where I qualified as an Adoption Counsellor by completing their Adoption Training Programme in the form of Attachment  Focused Counselling, Life Story Work, and Re-Connect. Introduction to Working with Couples Workshop, Introduction to Mindfulness Therapy Workshop, and Trauma/Recovery Programme for PTSD and Disassociative Disorder.

I can offer you short time limited counselling or long term psychotherapy in a friendly safe environment where you can feel comfortable to share with me as much or as little as you would like, with the safety of knowing you will not be judged in any way and are able to be just you, which often can be very difficult, in the outside world, as sometimes we all  may need a helping hand along the way to re-discover who we are and what our own individual needs/goals are, so if you feel in need of support for whatever reason this maybe, why not give me a call on 0758 1634063 or if you prefer email: sue.quigley07@yahoo.co.uk to discuss what maybe is on your mind and begin taking the first step in gaining back the control you may have lost in your life you may just find this could make the difference you have been searching for.
I offer On-Line Therapy Telephone Counselling, Face-Face Therapy and Home Visits within a local radius.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Mostly the presenting issues my clients bring to counselling relate with Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Low Self Esteem, Trauma, Bereavement relating with unresolved grief, anticipated grief and complicated grief. Anger problems, at times unresolved,  Panic Attacks, Alcohol and Drug issues, Domestic Violence, Abuse, Stress, Relationship Difficulties, Affairs/Betrayal, Separation/Divorce Financial difficulties, Loss of employment, Retirement, loss of a pet, loss of identity, infertility problems, mild-moderate depression, eating disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, self harm, troubled adolescents, bullying, Attachment difficulties, Adoption and the meaning of this or whatever else life may throw your way, you don't have to face alone.

Relationship difficulties come in many different forms, and often this is where counselling can help i. e. if there is a communication breakdown or family conflict which cannot be resolved elsewhere often having a safe space away from the home environment can help to resolve the issues which may be having an impact on your relationship.

I haven't got the magic wand you may hope for however what I do have is a warm safe environment where you can be you. Whether this is due to feeling lost and alone or just want a helping hand to find your way, counselling will help you to explore the difficult times in your life, enabling you to have a clearer understanding of where you may want to be.

Counselling as in life can be a journey and at times can be painful however through experiencing this process can help you begin to feel more complete and help gain back more control of enjoying a happier fuller life.
As a counsellor throughout our therapeutic relationship together I will show you empathic understanding, unconditional positive regard, ongoing support and begin a journey with you whether this be short or long term I will be with you every step of the way.

"Therapy isn't always easy however can improve your emotional well-being at a time where maybe nothing else can".

At this current time, I am aware this is a time where people may need extra support as life is hard enough even at the best of times.
