About me

Seeking help through talking therapies can be the first step towards you enjoying a calmer and happier life, with better relationships and a greater sense of your own value.

Hi I'm Sue, I'm a BACP accredited therapist and I have a private practice in Bedford,  counselling young people, adults, couples, ASC, I also accept work through the Employee Assistance Programme (referrals through employers).

  • Do you need help with anxiety, depression or overthinking?
  • Maybe you want to work out how to manage and understand your anger or uncomfortable emotions
  • You may want to talk through or to come to terms with past events, trauma or abuse. I have worked extensively with sexual trauma and abuse.
  • You may be feeling lost, don't know what direction to take in life or who you are anymore. I can help you find your true identity
  • Perhaps you've just lost your enjoyment of life?
  • You might want to talk through your feelings around relationship difficulties or the death of a love one.

I will help you to talk through any well-being concerns you have; work problems, family life, relationships, school/college, etc

I am experienced in working with people with Autism Spectrum Condition as well as their partners and family members.

I am a person-centred counsellor and this means that I understand that you are a unique person with your own story, and individual needs and concerns. I put you first; working with you to help you come to your own conclusions about the best way forward for you.

Person-centred counselling is a powerful talking therapy that helps you to make lifelong changes, form strong healthy relationships, come to terms with your past and to feel more settled and fulfilled in your life.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

"I was made to feel at ease in comfortable surroundings and at no point did I feel judged which I was nervous about. I would highly recommend Susan Powell. She was very friendly and knowledgeable, and overall I found it a very helpful experience"

"I can't thank you enough for how much you have helped me. You were there when I needed help and you guided me to such an amazing place. When I came to you I wanted help with a particular issue but I feel as though my recovery has gone so much further than this"

"I was going through some big changes in my life, so my anxiety was rearing its head. I found that you were able to help me to understand these feelings much better and deal with them like I wasn't able to before. I cannot thank you enough for making me feel so much happier!"

"Once again I find myself listening to G telling me you saved her life. I think it’s important you know the HUGE impact you have had on her life and that she keeps referring to you helping her turn her life around. Thank you Sue. I will always be grateful"
