About me

A warm welcome. I am aware of the many apprehensions and questions that can accompany the search for a counsellor - a counsellor that feels right. I wish you well in your search, glad that you are taking the significant step of looking for help.

In my experience and experience of others, the counselling process can go a significant way to meeting us where we are on our journey.

My counselling style is underpinned by the person centred approach. I have found this particular model favours our ability to explore, get in touch and better understand our many parts - the light and the shadows - and to discover our unique treasure of resources in a non directive way.

This process can enable us to be more who we are, more compassionate towards ourselves and others. It offers us an authentic way of being, allowing us to be better equipped in making choices.

I am an experienced and registered member of the BACP offering individual counselling to adults. This includes my training as an adoption counsellor, trained through LINK, at Barnardos.

I aim to create a safe space where a sense of unconditionality, empathy, and integrity enables the client and counsellor relationship. I aim to be flexible in the number of sessions clients may need. In my experience exploration of our journeys and its difficult encounters is difficult to measure in time.

In the exploratory session, space will be given for clients to voice their particular needs, explore their expectations, and how long they envisage the process to be initially - with the understanding that this is not fixed and can be reviewed as and when needed.
This will also be a time for me to respond to enquiries and any concerns clients may have.

For the foreseeable future I am working online. Home visits are available in particular circumstances. I hope to return to in person sessions as soon as is possible.

Sessions are generally one hour, once a week.

I am fluent in French and so also welcome clients who feel more comfortable in this language.

Counselling experience

My counselling experience includes being alongside clients from a wide range of backgrounds.

I have supported university students at the UEA counselling service. And worked as a counsellor in a school in Great Yarmouth. Further significant experience has been working with clients in charitable organisations and the voluntary sector, including MIND and 4Cs.

I am also a trained and approved adoption counsellor (Barnardos Adoption LINK). I have supported clients alongside wide ranging  adoption contexts - including birth family, adopted or adoptee family member situations.

As well as a specialist interest in the area of depression, my other interest and experience includes spirituality.  Am discovering more and more how exploring these areas and connections can significantly shape and nourish our journey, who we are and are becoming.

Education and previous work experience

Other qualifications include an MA in French Cultural Studies and a BA(Hons) in French and Drama (Roehampton) - these studies helped shape my interest in diverse communicative approaches in further and adult education contexts.
I increasingly experienced how personal development spaces embedded in the curriculum could help open up an individual's relational potential, as well as their interest in learning. In delivering and developing individualised language, learning and vocational programs, my aim was to reach, support and enable people from a range of backgrounds, cultures and abilities, including those for whom English was not their first language. Attention to their personal development seemed to help them get in touch with themselves and others. My growing interest in this area, in part, led me to developing a counselling career.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
