About me

Hello and welcome.

You've landed on my profile.  You might have read a few already or maybe mine is the first one you've clicked on.  Deciding on a counsellor is such a personal choice. There are people we click with more than others and choosing a counsellor can feel a bit like that.  Here's some information that I hope will help you to make that choice....

Who am I?

I am a qualified counsellor (Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling).  In my previous career I was a school teacher for many years.  I work with teenagers, young adults and adults of all ages.

I believe in the transformative power of therapy to change lives. I know it can work - I would not be a counsellor if I didn’t strongly believe that.

How counselling can help

Here are a few examples that might resonate with you....

....When you’re trying to decide whether to have counselling and you feel unsure, ask yourself how it would be for you if things stay the same. If, having considered that question, you do want something to change, please contact me.

.....If it’s not exactly change you’re after but more an emotional or vibrational shift or you simply have a feeling that something isn’t right with you or you feel stuck, I can help you to explore that too.

.....Perhaps you’ve suffered loss and are struggling with overwhelming emotions at times. Perhaps you feel numb and don’t know what you feel. If you want someone to talk to about that, I’m here.

.....Maybe you feel angry or challenged with difficult life circumstances and don’t have a place to put those emotions or make sense of them. Talking to someone could help.

.....Maybe you're experiencing a level of anxiety that is causing discomfort and difficulty in your daily life.  Sharing your concerns with a counsellor could help.

.....Maybe you feel depressed and would like help with NOT feeling like that anymore.  Talking to a therapist can assist you.

Embarking on a therapeutic journey is an act of bravery and I feel privileged to walk alongside my clients. I fully acknowledge how courageous my clients are because sometimes therapy is hard. I understand what a leap of faith it is to share your feelings with another person.

How I work

I warmly invite you to experience how it is to sit with someone who will not judge you or tell you what to do. This invitation also includes an opportunity to be listened to without interruption, at a time of your choosing, in a space just for you.

Perhaps most importantly of all, confidentiality is assured. With this, plus empathy, as the foundation for therapy, let’s see if by working collaboratively, we can together help you find solutions, understanding and/or acceptance, or whatever it is that you seek.  Your feelings matter.

I offer 50-minute sessions and there is flexibility on how long we work together – short, medium or long term, the choice is yours. Some clients only need a few sessions, others somewhat more, but it will always be your choice. Sessions are normally weekly.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework. I have a BACP approved Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I work integratively, drawing on different modes of therapy (eg person-centred and psychodynamic) according to each client’s need. The therapeutic relationship is integral to my practice.

Before I trained as a counsellor I was a teacher for many years and therefore have an understanding of education sector challenges.
