Susan McGrath BSc MSc PGDip Reg BACP(Accred)
Making the first step to contact a counsellor can be daunting but I have been working therapeutically since 1998. I can help you feel at ease quickly and help you work out what may be causing distress and find ways to work things through. I have extensive experience of working with Adolescents (I worked in student counselling at the University of Surrey for 9 years), Individuals and Couples on a whole range of issues. I am particularly interested and experienced in working with depression, anxiety, trauma, unresolved childhood issues, phobias, psycho-somatic symptoms, mid-life crisis of meaning, divorce/separation, spirituality and relationship issues including codependency and love addiction.
I work in Guildford and Dorking town centres and East Horsley. All locations are within walking distance of a station and have ample parking.
Training, qualifications & experience
PGDip Psychosynthesis Counselling (Psychosynthesis and Education Trust, 2003)
Psychosynthesis works with the symptoms and personal issues that trigger people to seek therapy and also with the bigger picture of meaning and purpose to help individuals thrive. I work both short and long term with individuals.
Diploma in Adolescent Counselling (Westminster Pastoral Foundation 2008)
This training was invaluable in my work with young people, from 14 years and over, going through the transition from childhood to young adulthood and from home to more independent living. I have 9 years experience of counselling young people as part of my role in the Wellbeing Centre at the University of Surrey.
Certificate Couples Counselling (Relate 2004)
As my couples work has evolved I have also incorporated Imago and Emotionally Focused Couples therapy into my work and see my role as a coach to support the couple relationship to open to a deeper level of connection and intimacy.

Other areas of counselling I deal with
I am a graduate of the Ecotherapy training from the Re-vision training organisation and use the outdoors as a resource for health and wellbeing. This is particularly helpful for depression and low energy . I work with the Enneagram as a tool for self development and awareness. I also use Thought Field Therapy as part of trauma work.
I am happy to discuss fees but generally charge £65 for individuals, £75 for couples and £60 for supervision. I am happy to offer a free 20 minute call or Skype session to answer any questions and talk more about what I can offer.
I use the Enneagram in my work to aid self awareness and reflection. I am a graduate of the Hoffman process (2011). I am also a student of the Diamond Approach within the UK which is part of my ongoing commitment to continuous professional development (CPD). I attend regular supervision to ensure I work at the highest possible therapeutic and ethical level.
