About me

Are you struggling with anxiety, relationship problems, low mood, or low self esteem and feel that you need some help?

Or do you have difficulties related to a diagnosis, surgery, or a bereavement, that has impacted on your emotional wellbeing? These sorts of events can really knock us, causing anxiety, high stress levels, poor sleep, and low mood.

I can help you with these problems, by supporting you to take a gentle and kind look at yourself, and listening to you with impartiality and compassion.  Of course I cant change your life situations, but together we can change how you relate to them.

Those first steps to seeking professional help can feel daunting, and opening up to a complete stranger is never easy.  During our work together, we will always progress at a pace that feels comfortable to you.

I am a fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor, used to talking to people with a wide range of emotional issues. I offer you a calm quiet space so you can explore what's going on for you.

My speciality is couple counselling and working with clients, especially women, with health care issues, and food addiction, but I can help you with all the usual types of issues that people come for therapy for.

I see clients in a designated private room on the ground floor in my home, a quiet secluded and rural spot which is a few minutes’ drive from Baldwins Gate village, near Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire.  I offer both long and short term work.

I am also close to the Cheshire and Shropshire border with easy access to the towns of Crewe, Nantwich, Market Drayton and Loggerheads, and the villages of Madeley, Ashley, Audlem, Bridgemere, Woore, Wrinehill, Betley and Eccleshall all within easy reach.  I am just 15 minutes' drive from junction 15 of the M6.

Training, qualifications & experience

My entire professional life has been spent working with people. I have been a registered nurse for many decades, working in accident and emergency departments, children’s wards, and general practice.

In 2014 I decided to complete a BACP accredited training course in order to practice as a counsellor, and I am now fully registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Since 2015 I have worked as a counsellor for the NHS, at a hospice, and a local mental health charity.  I currently work in my own private practice, seeing adults individually or as couples.

Qualifications include:

A Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology and one in Advanced Nursing Practice. I also have qualifications in Nurse Prescribing, Specialist Practitioner BSc (Hons), Sick Children’s nursing plus I have completed specialist training in sexual health, cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, compassion focused therapy, assertiveness and clear communication, motivational interviewing, transactional analysis, psychodynamic therapy, relationship and sexual problems, couple therapy, mindfulness based stress reduction and cognitive therapy.

Further information

I am an Integrative Counsellor, and I practice this with a person centred focus.

What that means is I can offer many different therapeutic approaches, for example, psychodynamic, transactional analysis, mindfulness, moment by moment body awareness, behavioural activation and cognitive behavioural therapy as and when it maybe helpful for you.

However we will focus in the main on where you are, your needs and aims, and what you want to consider.  As we get to know each other, we will build a relationship which will be fundamental to your healing.

Many clients choose me because they particularly value the combination of sensitive counselling underpinned by medical knowledge, you maybe

  • needing support in relation to a life changing diagnosis, bereavement, a medically traumatic experience, or similar,
  • have anxieties related to your body image, appearance, ageing, or previous surgery,
