About me

Hi,

My name is Sue Jackson (nee Hannam) and I am a supportive and empathetic Person Centered Therapist who provides a safe, non judgemental and confidential environment for you to explore your difficulties or any issues that are troubling you and discover a new way forward.  I offer an extremely personable approach to therapy and work in an integrated way, tailoring my sessions to the needs of each unique individual client.

A number of years ago I was given a second chance at life, something that I believe everyone is entitled to.  Belief in a power greater than myself allowed me to overcome my difficulties,  and to become the person I am today and the reason why I became a Therapist.  I believe that, we all possess the capabilities to reach our full potential, it's just that we may need faith that such is possible and hope that therapy will help us to navigate our way forward.

I believe that the experience of sharing difficult feelings; of being 'heard' and not judged can be liberating and empowering.  In some circumstances I will share personal details about my own issues, but only where to do so, may be helpful for the client or the issues they are presenting.

I've recently been looking at how the essense of Spirituality can help to elevate a person's self awareness and understanding and how incorporating Spiritual Tools into my therapy sessions can help a client to believe that there are forces at work, looking out for them.  For some clients, brief meditation exercises may be incorporated into a session, especially where a client may feel 'stuck', with the intention that a shift may occur, allowing them move forward.

Talking Therapy can help you understand why you think, feel and act like you do and help you create your individual new design for living.

I offer a flexible Online Video Call appointment system to accommodate clients, where ever you are from, including daytime, evening and if needs be, weekend appointments.

Local Face to Face Home visits maybe possible with an uplifted fee.

I am continuing to provide Therapy by Video Call sessions as they have proved to be extremely successful, allowing clients to talk with me from their own safe space, plus not having to travel back and forth from sessions.   The platform I use is end to end encrypted and therefore entirely safe and confidential.

Training, qualifications & experience

Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from The Manchester College approved course by the BACP. My main modality is Person Centred counselling but I tend to work in an Integrative was, with experience of Psychodynamic and CBT.

I am currently engaged in the Spiritually Aligned Therapist Programme in the hope of introducing Spiritual concepts and exercises into my therapy sessions where a client is open to that mindset.

I have previously volunteered at MIND and at Fortalice, a Women's Refuge for Domestic Abuse.  I have experience in many issues, specifically,

Addictions, Bereavement, Divorce, other Related Emotional issues along with Grief & Loss.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Having taken early retirement in 2017, it has allowed me to focus on providing help and understanding to those people who are struggling with life. I am passionate about Talking Therapy and the way I work with my clients. Together, it gives us the opportunity to explore what is troubling you and help you understand why you think, feel and act as you do.  Together, we can discover a different way of being and design a new way of living.  There is no greater pleasure for me than to experience a client's personal growth and observe their empowerment and new desire for living life on their terms, which they have developed through therapy.
