What to expect.

The first session will be an in depth assessment of your problem including how your problem effects you and any relevant history will be taken. We will focus on thoughts, feelings and behaviours and discuss the goal you may wish to achieve through your therapy. Following assessment we can either book a future therapy session there and then or you may need time to think if you wish to go ahead.I understand this is a big step and it is important you feel comfortable. A good therapeutic relationship is an important factor for consideration when choosing a therapist and is an indicator influencing positive outcomes. Once engaged with therapy we will go at your pace and review the therapy is of benefit and answer any questions you may have. We will work collaboratively together to reach your goal and enable you to gain insight and feel more able to cope with life. -Anxiety disorders

-Employment issues.

As human beings we can all experience these issues and there is often a reason for us feeling this way. Past trauma and abuse and/or overwhelming current stress can make us less resilient to cope with the pressures of our daily lives. We can become highly critical of ourselves and lack self compassion. Sometimes it may feel like you have lost direction and struggle to get through the day, experiencing little sense of pleasure or achievement from life. It may feel that anxiety has overwhelmed you to the point where you have started to avoid situations or have become socially withdrawn, fearful of others negative judgment. You may have started to worry about your health, appearance or just cant stop worrying about everything. You may have lost confidence, become self critical, and focus on negative thoughts. It may be that you can't stop cleaning or checking and feel out of control. You may find you have become more dependant on alcohol and generally not looking after yourself, possibly feeling isolated and disassociated from what's going on around you. You may having difficulty with mood fluctuations or notice that you become more angry than usual.

Sometimes it's about what's happened to us rather than what's "wrong" with us. We cannot help feeling this way and we are certainly not to blame. Psychological problems are extremely common and with effective therapy you can overcome your problems, learn to manage your symptoms and regain control of your life

For therapy sessions it usual to seen on a one to one basis however if this is an issue we can discuss this at either at assessment or first initial contact.

Im no good at talking..what will I talk about?
Please don't worry about this common concern. It is normal for some to settle in to therapy, and once you feel comfortable it will get easier and you will be more able to open up.There are many ways to help you with this.

This will be explained to you at assessment. It is a confidential service unless there are any particular legal issues or safety issues

No. It is most important we work at your pace, you need to feel safe and should never feel under any pressure to disclose any information you do not want to or feel ready to share.

How long will it take me to feel better?
It can vary depending on so many factors. Most people I see often notice changes and gain some insight after six sessions but if it is a complex well engrained problem may take longer. We always review to check the therapy is helping y

MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

”From my sessions with Sue I have gained a deep understanding of why I think and act in the ways I have done for many years. This understanding, and then looking at how I react has enabled me to regain confidence, build self esteem and believe in myself and move on from a very difficult and destructive situation I was in.

Her patience, listening and feedback have helped me so much to move on and taught me to think about how I react in so may areas in my life and be kind to myself without feeling selfish.”
