Sue Devall Haywood Counselling Centre. Anxiety/Trauma/Addictions Specialist
- MBACP (Accredited and Registered)

I have worked as a qualified counsellor since 2004 for a number of organisations in a counselling and supervisory capacity. I am the proprietor of Haywood Counselling Centre, which was established in 2009 and provides Counselling, Psy-Tap, OldPain2Go, Supervision and Workshops that are specifically tailored for individuals, couples, groups, and organisations.
Mission: to provide an accessible, high quality service that emphasises trust, respect, confidentiality, and compassion. Working as rapidly and effectively as possible.
The Centre is dedicated to providing an honourable service, which is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
Through my training and experience of counselling and supervising clients, I have developed a sensitive approach towards the needs and difficulties of any client group and understand the necessity to work imaginatively with individuals and groups in order that they can express themselves. This includes using alternative methods in which to work and encourages the value of using a wide range of creative interventions.
I work with individuals who are experiencing issues relating to depression, health, low self-esteem, work related stress, anxiety, abuse, anger, trauma, sexuality, bereavement and loss. I also work with individuals, couples, families and groups who are experiencing relationship difficulties in their personal or work life.
I offer all prospective clients a free introductory 30-minute consultation. This provides an opportunity to discuss your requirements and I can explain about how I work.
Theoretical Approaches to Counselling
Counselling is designed to help identify thoughts, emotions and behaviours which, once accessed, can offer a greater awareness of personal resources and can facilitate considerable change. Haywood Counselling Centre is highly committed to providing a service, which is significantly informed by Integrative Counselling and Supervision and includes: Person Centred, Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioural and Creative methods.
Relationship Counselling: for couples, families and groups
Works to improve communication and resolve problems within your relationship.Techniques used will take place within your counselling sessions but there may be some tasks to complete or discuss in between sessions. Most couples or families who attend counselling leave it as a last resort before they contact however I would advise that if you have got some problems in your relationship or things have changed in some way which are having a negative impact on the relationship contact me rather than leaving it to get worse – it will take less time to get the relationship back on track and achieve your goals.
Was established from a need to change the way we approach therapy and has a solution focused, rather than problem focused approach. It’s founder, Kevin Laye has created what he believes to be the fastest and most effective system available. It is a combination of proven techniques, which are rapid in their application from one second to a few minutes. They provide emotional renewal quickly and safely. The gentle nature, speed, and power of these procedures leave the body noticeably relieved. It is used to treat a wide variety of issues including stress and anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, grief, acute trauma and PTSD, anger, guilt, pain and much more. It can provide emotional renewal quickly and safely with no side effects. The gentle nature, speed, and power of these techniques leave you noticeably relieved and no longer stuck in your previously distressed reaction patterns. Two sessions are usually sufficient: I recommend an initial consultation of 50 minutes. This allows sufficient time for assessment, information sharing and treatment to take place, so progress can begin right from the very start. The second consultation also takes 50 minutes.
Addiction Cessation (smoking, alcohol, drugs, gambling and food)
Due to the sheer effectiveness of the combination of Psy-Tap and Hypnotherapy fewer sessions are necessary. Two sessions are usually sufficient: I recommend an initial consultation of 50 minutes. This allows sufficient time for assessment, information sharing and treatment to take place, so progress can begin right from the very start. The second consultation also takes 50 minutes.
Pain originates in the brain from where the signal is sent to the injury or site of pain. For example if you break your arm, the brain generates the pain and sends it to your arm so that you become aware of the pain and can then do something about it. Sometimes the source of pain is not physical, it’s emotional. You may have experienced an emotional situation, which at the time protected the body. As an OldPain2Go certified practitioner I can help you turn off this ‘old’ pain. Sometimes your brain needs a reminder that the damage is healed, or that no more can be done physically and/or medically. In both cases the pain is no longer necessary. I’ve worked with clients who have had pain for many years and the pain is usually released in a single session and relatively quickly. OldPain2Go achieves results that are rarely available from any other modalities. Typically this results in the total removal or dramatically reduced old physical pain messages.
The Importance of Regular and Effective Supervision for Professionals
Supervision is a supportive process for counsellors and encourages an awareness of how working practices affect individuals. It provides a supportive setting, offers stability, reinforces boundaries and identifies the pressures that counselling clients can bring.
It encourages awareness and identification of professional working practices. It ensures individuals are working safely, ethically and to the highest professional standards whilst polices, practices and procedures are adhered to.
It is a process that develops skills and abilities and encourages reflection, self-awareness, ways of working with clients and identifies training requirements.
Haywood Counselling Centre has an additional room that can be used for working creatively in supervision, which adds another dimension to your supervision sessions.
