About me

At times we all have problems that worry us - sometimes problems that are difficult to talk to our friends and family about. I can help you look in a fresh way at whatever's bothering you and work with you to resolve the difficulty or help you find ways of coping.

I work with a person-centred approach, which means that my task is to listen in a very warm and accepting way, and not judge you or tell you what to do. We would work together to enable you to understand yourself better so you can make positive choices and decisions, and so find a way forward that is meaningful for you.

Sometimes three or four counselling sessions are all it takes for you to feel more able to manage an immediate concern - or the work may take several more weeks or months if you want to go deeper into things.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma of Higher Education in Person-Centred/Integrative Counselling (from the University of Gloucestershire) as well as a Certificate in Relationship Counselling. I'm also an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means that I work within their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I'm also registered on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Over the years I have worked with many different individual clients and couples, and with a wide range of difficulties. Some of my work has been with life-limiting health conditions and learning/physical disability, much of which has involved looking at some big spiritual questions around the meaning of life.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

For work with both couples and individuals, it's a good idea for us to have an initial meeting where we can get to know each other a little and begin to explore what your hopes and expectations are for the counselling work.

If we decide to continue working together, we'll arrange to meet for a set number of weekly counselling sessions. Then we'll review how things are going and you can decide what you'd like to do - bring the counselling to an end, agree to meet for a further set number of sessions or continue in a more open-ended way.

Sessions are mainly available during the day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but I can sometimes offer early evening appointments. All sessions last for an hour.

Fees:
Initial meeting - individuals £20, couples £25.
Regular sessions - individuals £40, couples £50.
