About me

I am a UKCP registered Gestalt Psychotherapist & qualified experienced counsellor, with many years of experience working in the field of addiction and trauma in both mental health services and in private practice. My practise is based in Kemp town & Central Brighton. I currently have some availability for short or long term therapy. It can be difficult to reach out to someone when you're feeling anxious or depressed but generally it can bring relief to talk to someone who is outside of your immediate family and friends without the fear of judgement. I offer a warm confidential and safe space to explore whatever is troubling you.

I have experience of working with a wide range of different issues including anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, trauma, relationship issues, bereavement and loss, addictions and many other issues that people may seek therapy for.

As a Gestalt therapist I am interactive and share my thoughts and feelings with you, to enable you to develop more awareness of yourself. We are often unaware of how we might be blocking ourselves by repeating negative patterns. With greater awareness of ourselves we can create more meaning and choice in our lives, and enhance our relationships with others.

You may need a few sessions to focus on something in particular or for a deeper exploration longer term work may be more helpful. In our initial meeting we can discuss your personal needs, to decide what will be most effective for you.

I offer low cost assessments at £30. To make an initial appointment please call me on 07917402207 or email me on sueboyer08@gmail.com.                                                         If you would like to have a telephone conversation, before making an appointment to briefly discuss your situation please leave me a message with times that you're available and i'll return your call.

All calls are confidential.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications

Diploma - Therapeutic Counselling
Post Graduate Certificate in Gestalt Psychotherapy
Post Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy
MA in Gestalt Psychotherapy ( training at London Gestalt Centre)

I am committed to my personal and professional development and attend many training seminars.

As a Gestalt therapist I work with what is present for you in the here and now, supporting you to become more aware of your fixed patterns or beliefs that may be stopping you from living the life you want for yourself.  My initial counselling training was psychodynamic and I combine these two approach's, to tailor your needs. Gestalt therapy incorporates some very similar concepts that are used in CBT therapy which I draw from if I believe this will best support your needs.

I have worked in a variety of settings both in the voluntary sector and in private practice.

I have been in private practice for over 20 years and offer counselling/psychotherapy to both men and women for a wide range of issues.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
