Counselling may be of help to you at times of crisis, to help you work through a particular problem, or to address thoughts and feelings that are interfering with your ability to live your life in the way that you want to. If you feel like you might benefit from counselling, then you probably would. Together, we can work out what you need from counselling, and we can decide between us whether I'm able to help.
Counselling doesn't have to be mysterious. I'll explain in simple language how the process works. I'll be honest with you, and tell you what I'm thinking and feeling during our work together. I'll strive to make sure I have an understanding of the things you're thinking and feeling. I'll work with you as an equal, encouraging you to find your own solutions to whatever difficulties you're experiencing.
The most important thing in counselling is that the counsellor and the client can build a relationship of trust in which they're able to work well together. So rather than bore you with lengthy descriptions of what counselling is, how it works, and why you should give it a try, I'll invite you to a free consultation. I am an LGBTQ+ friendly counsellor. I have friends, colleagues and acquaintances across a broad range of sexual orientations and gender identities. I also have friends who identify as polyamorous, and variants thereof. You will not experience any judgement from me around your identity or around your lifestyle choices. Your identity or lifestyle will only be of relevance if it's something you wish to discuss.
A session lasts 50 minutes. Because I don't want you to spend money with no idea of what you're getting into, I offer a free initial session during which you can tell me why you're considering counselling and what you hope to gain from it, ask any questions about how the process works, and decide if you'd like to come back. There will be no pressure to return if you don't wish to.
If you do decide to continue, my fees are £40 per session.
Like the vast majority of counsellors, I've experienced personal therapy first hand. When you sit in that chair and start to open up about your problems, remember that your counsellor has been in that chair himself. I know what it feels like, and I believe it's an incredibly brave thing to do. One of the reasons I trained as a counsellor is that I know the process works. I've had over 50 hours of personal therapy. It was of great benefit to me, and I offer it to you in the hope that you'll have a similar experience.
