Stephanie Viggars BSc, PGCert, PGDip, MSc, MBACP
Person-centred counselling offers, warm, genuine and supportive therapy, giving clients the space and safety to share their concerns, looking at how you feel in yourself regarding what you have come to counselling for.
This approach believes that each and every one of us, is best placed to govern our own lives. It does not try to offer diagnosis or advise, instead offering a safe and confidential place for you to explore your feelings, thoughts, difficulties and anxieties. Enabling you to arrive at your own conclusions. My biggest aim is to offer a non- judgemental space and to truly listen. Therapy can be a powerful step towards trusting our own inner voice and allow us to continue along our individual journeys through life.
Clients within person-centred therapy should expect to find empathy, unconditional positive regard and a congruent client- counsellor relationship. Meaning freedom from fear to explore every aspect of themselves and their life.
Training, qualifications & experience
- MSc in Counselling Psychology
- PG Dip in Counselling Psychology
- PG Cert in Counselling Psychology
- BSc in Psychology and Neuroscience
Since finishing my training I have worked within a person-centred approach in my own private practice. Developing a passion for personal development and creative outlets which I have found support mental health and growth.
I was also a listening volunteer with the Samaritans for many years, a role that taught me a lot and led me towards my career in counselling. During my training to become a psychotherapist, I was based within an NHS primary care centre, seeing clients referred to the counselling team by the resident GPs.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Initial introductory session is charged at £25.
All sessions after are charged at £40 for telephone or £45 for video.
Many of us feel apprehensive when considering therapy, so for this reason I like to offer an initial session for a reduced fee to allow you the space to explore if you feel I am the right counsellor for you
I offer both telephone and online video sessions, meaning that wherever you live in the world, if you travel a lot for life commitments or work, you can access and continue your journey of therapy without interruption.
In this fast paced world, online and telephone counselling allows clients to access therapy from the comfort of their own office, home or safe space. Allowing us to add counselling more easily into already busy schedules thanks to no extra travel commitments.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to their ethical framework for good practice, to ensure I am working safely with clients.
