About me

My name is Stephanie and I am a qualified Person Centred/Humanistic Counsellor. During my training and after qualifying as a therapeutic counsellor I provided counselling support to a Hertfordshire based charity that provides free intensive structured, abstinence-based, day treatment for adults with substance addictions: alcohol, illicit and non-illicit drugs and behavioural addictions such as: eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, self-harm, gambling, shopping/spending, relationships, love and sex

There are times when life can feel overwhelming for us all.  There are events or situations that can leave us feeling anxious, less confident, a sense of losing our identity, which can impact on our relationships with others or how we view ourselves.  We all need someone to talk to in confidence, to help facilitate our thoughts and feelings, to be able to make sense of why we may be feeling the way in which we do.  Having time and space to reflect on our feelings within a safe and non-judgemental environment is key to forming a relationship that enables us to begin the process of trust and self exploration, which may lead us to acceptance and self-resolution.

Being in private practice I have experience of supporting people with a range of issues, i.e. Anxiety, child sexual abuse, self-harm, depression and relationship difficulties. Counselling sessions are led by the clients and can be short or long term depending on need.  The counselling sessions are always reviewed generally at six week intervals to evaluate progress.

I am able to provide Talking and Drawing sessions for children and young people. This is a child-centred therapy focusing on prevention, early intervention and recovery of mental health issues. It is beneficial for children and young people who have suffered trauma or have underlying emotional difficulties affecting their mental health and well-being. The sessions are undertaken over a 12 week period for half an hourPlease contact me should you wish to obtain further information.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Sessions will be offered for an initial six week period, taking place weekly. After this period the counselling will be reviewed to see if this is continuing to meet your expectations, to consider progress, to evaluate if further sessions are required and to plan for these if appropriate to do so.  Counselling can be short term or undertaken over a longer period, it depends on the individual and their needs.

Drawing and Talking for Children and Young people are half hour sessions undertaken over a 12 week period.

You can expect the sessions to be non-judgemental, respectful and lead by you. I believe you are the expert of your feelings and within a safe, containing environment this enables  exploration of the presenting issues. Together we can explore your feelings, anxieties and experiences, making sense of your world.
