About me

My name is Stefanie Marsh and I am a fully qualified UKCP integrative psychotherapist and integrative art psychotherapist with a wide range of experience who can offer tailored support and direction. I specialise in working with people who are experiencing overwhelming emotions, who want to break self-defeating patterns or who are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, work/relationship challenges, ADHD or adverse childhood experiences. My approach can be especially helpful for those who have found self-help books or cognitive behavioural therapy ineffective.

Approach

My training is integrative and evidence-based, meaning that clients and I work together to find out which approaches are most effective for them. I offer both short-term, solution-focused support or a longer-term therapy for more trenchant issues. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental for progress and change. Authenticity within this relationship is key, along with establishing trust, empathy, and a receptive ear. Together, we can identify the deeper issues that might be influencing your current emotional and relational experiences. This process goes beyond surface symptoms to explore underlying psychological, relational, and cultural patterns, helping you gain greater self-awareness and develop a more satisfying way of living

Art Psychotherapy and grounding techniques
I am also a fully qualified Arts Psychotherapist. This approach integrates creative methods such as drawing, painting, and active imagination to help you express emotions and explore inner experiences, especially when words feel limiting. Creativity in therapy can unlock insights, process trauma, and foster change in ways that words alone sometimes cannot. I also make use of grounding techniques and sensory inventories to help clients identify what they are feeling and how to help themselves feel better in the moment. The arts and/or body awareness can be integrated into therapy if clients feel it is useful.

Safe Trauma Therapy

I have also trained in Rothschild’s Safe Trauma Therapy, a gentle, down-to-earth and effective method designed to process and move past trauma safely and without overwhelm.

Pace and outcomes
We will regularly assess your progress to ensure the work remains meaningful and aligned with your goals.

If you would like to make an appointment or have any questions, please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, (UKCP), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). I am also trained in Safe Trauma Therapy, Solutions' Focused Therapy and supervision. I have regular supervision with a UKCP-accredited supervisor, according to HCPC and UKCP ethical guidelines.

I have worked as a psychotherapist and art psychotherapist with a wide range of client groups in the NHS and in the charity sector, offering short term and long term therapy in individual and group settings. Many of my clients have experienced relational trauma in their life, including abuse, neglect and abandonment in childhood, life crises, breakdowns and difficult breakups from partners.

I have worked with adults of a wide age range and with a broad presentation of difficulties.

These include:

  • anxiety and depression
  • self esteem or identity issues
  • loneliness
  • traumatic events, abuse or difficult childhood experiences
  • finding hope and meaning
  • culture, language and identity
  • involuntary childlessness
  • feelings of being overwhelmed; recovery from burnout or break down
  • work, career and occupational issues
  • clinical mental health diagnoses

I follow the HCPC's standards of proficiency, consult an experienced registered supervisor and am committed to ongoing professional development.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
