Sophie Thouret, MA. HCPC Registered Art Therapist
"I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for." - Georgia O'Keefe
Hi, I'm Sophie! I am a friendly and approachable Art Therapist based in central Stockport.*
In Art Therapy we can talk through experiences, thoughts and feelings that you may be having difficulty with. I may then invite you to make some art to help us think about these feelings together, if you feel comfortable doing so.
Art materials may help us to express or communicate feelings and thoughts in a way that words sometimes can't. Art Therapy is not about making 'good' art, it's about how our images can help us reflect upon our feelings.
There is no pressure to make art in session. If you don't feel as if art-making would be helpful, we can just sit with how you are feeling and have a conversation. As with any other type of counselling and psychotherapy, I am here to listen.
Sometimes there are no words for our feelings and experiences, and that's okay. It is important to me that you feel safe and supported in Art Therapy.
I currently work with women and children who have difficulties that range from social and financial troubles, experiences of domestic violence, childhood trauma and mental health diagnoses. I worked with children in education for ten years before becoming an Art Psychotherapist and I offer Art Therapy to both children and adults. When I am not doing Art Therapy, I work with children with SEN in primary schools.
My work is trauma-informed and I work collaboratively with many other professionals in my field in order to keep up-to date with my professional development and training opportunities.
*currently only able to accept clients who are women and children due to the location of my practice.
