About me

Opening up about your true feelings to a counsellor can make you feel vulnerable and I promise to support you through this. Perhaps you have developed a ‘brave’ face you present to others, and letting this fall away for an hour in counselling feels overwhelming. Perhaps you think you should be able to cope with or ‘get over’ your problems alone, or perhaps you secretly believe there’s something wrong with you that can’t be helped. I believe everyone holds within them the power to accept themselves and in time find their own sense of self, choice and happiness. Whatever has lead you to search for a counsellor today, you have taken an important step towards this.

The next step is being listened to, understood and accepted, and this is central to the way I work. Counselling is a confidential, non-judgmental and safe space in which you can be real, listened to and understood with empathy and compassion. I work in a gentle and relational way at your pace, getting to know you and how you’re feeling within yourself so that we can build a counselling approach around this and the intentions that bought you to counselling. As counselling and the joint exploration it involves leads you self awareness, we can work together to see how you would like this to fit within you, your life and your future. I can help with anxiety, panic, phobias, depression, OCD (including Pure O) distressing/traumatic past experiences, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, low confidence, loneliness, anger, and body image. People come to counselling for many different reasons, and finding the right counsellor for you is important. I will always offer you a free consultation session and am happy to answer any questions you might have by email.

I am trained and have experience working in a person-centred and integrative way with Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, using Mindfulness to work with depression anxiety and trauma, Attachment Theory, Existential therapy and Transpersonal therapy. I also have experience working with Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

I currently work part time as a Counsellor within the NHS alongside my own private practise.

I am a Member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists, this means I work in line with their ethical requirements and attend regular supervision sessions to ensure I am working ethically and to the best of my ability.

I offer sessions in Barnstaple, the room is located discreetly and offers a warm, relaxing and calm space.
