About me

My therapeutic approach begins with creating a safe, accepting, non-judgmental environment in order to understand what brings you to therapy.  I believe people have the ability to be in rewarding relationships with others but need to work through whatever emotionally prevents this.  With this in mind, it feels important first that the two of us feel able to connect, so that the relationship we build together feels safe and trusting. This will enable deeper exploration and help to untangle some of the feelings that inhibit you elsewhere.

Difficult feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem or a disconnection from others may cause you to feel stuck in unhelpful patterns and beliefs about yourself.

Together, we will look at what you want from the therapeutic process and then will explore and uncover how some conscious as well as unconscious beliefs and patterns are still active and affecting you today.  Through these conversations, an understanding of your past and present relationships, exploring family issues as well as any cultural background and beliefs will enable greater self-awareness and understanding of how and why you feel the way you do today.  This discussion and awareness enables emotional shifts and feeling internally better.

The aim of the therapeutic relationship is to empower you to find new ways forward leading to a more fulfilling life involving personal growth and change. I will support you to find new ways to work through any problems you are facing.  We will work collaboratively to resolve these issues and bring about a new and freer you.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a professionally accredited, qualified and experienced Integrative-relational psychotherapist (http://relational-integrative-psychotherapy.uk/chapters/what-is-relational-integrative-psychotherapy/), my approach is to draw on a range of different theories to support the way I work. These are adapted and integrated to suit each person's individual needs.

I run my private practice in the South Kensington and Thames Ditton areas. In addition to this, I work in a school offering supervision and support to parents and staff. Previously, I worked in a counselling centre for women offering long term therapy and in an NHS GP practice. I offer longer-term therapy and have experience in dealing with a wide range of issues.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I work with a wide range of issues but more importantly am interested in every part of who you are, including your past and present relationships, family background, cultural identity and a sense how you feel now and what you want to be different. Together we will look at what is holding you back from living the life you want to live and work towards undoing old thinking patterns to find new ways forward.
