About me
Hello I’m Sobia. As an experienced accredited BACP Psychotherapist, I provide a safe, contained, compassionate and person centred therapeutic environment for you to share and explore your challenging life experiences, painful emotions and worries. As a result of therapy many people are able to increase their self awareness, make helpful changes and are able to grow and prioritise their wellbeing.
I have over 20 years experience of working in NHS mental health services. As a private Integrative Psychotherapist, I work with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties that people may experience. I have a passion for helping people understand their problems, improve their self awareness, build their emotional resilience, rediscover and connect with their inner resources.
Some common experiences and difficulties I work with are; Anxiety Disorders (including phobias, OCD, social anxiety, health anxiety and excessive worrying and overthinking) Bereavement, Depression, Loss, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Redundancy, Relationships, Self-esteem, Service veterans, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am experienced in working with people who struggle with anxieties such as social anxiety, health anxiety, phobias, OCD, excessive worrying and overthinking. I also provide therapy for treating low mood and depression for those experiencing interpersonal/relational difficulties. Providing trauma therapies such as EMDR and trauma focused CBT is another major area of my practice.
I hold a B.Phil degree in Counselling (Psychodynamic) and I am trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. As I am trained in several models of therapies, I work integratively.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
