About us

Sleep Well Oxford is a specialist telemedicine clinic providing evidence-based treatment for Insomnia and, where appropriate and helpful, other sleep disorders (e.g. Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD) or Restless Legs Syndrome). It is run by Dr Dimitri Gavriloff, a Clinical Psychologist specialising in sleep and sleep disorders who works both in clinical practice and sleep research at the University of Oxford.

Although we are based in Oxford, all of our work at Sleep Well Oxford is done virtually, so you can be in the privacy of your office or the comfort of your home, with your treatment creating minimal disruption. The principal treatment we offer is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) which is made up of a group of clinical techniques that have been developed and refined over the course of the last few decades to tackle insomnia head on and to do so without having to rely on medication.

The most important thing about CBT-I is that it's an evidence-based treatment. Put simply, that means it has been very well tested by clinicians and researchers, often using the most powerful kinds of clinical tests, the Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT). The evidence that it is effective at treating insomnia is so strong that it is recommended as a first-line clinical intervention in international clinical guidelines.

If you're struggling with your sleep, or if you would like to discuss our treatment and approach further, do please feel free to get in touch or visit our website for more information.

Training, qualifications & experience

Dr Dimitri Gavriloff is a Clinical Psychologist specialising in the field of behavioural sleep medicine. He combines his experience of working clinically in the NHS together with his research expertise to offer evidence-based tailored cognitive-behavioural approaches to people struggling with their sleep.

Dr Gavriloff has worked in the NHS since 2011. His initial clinical experience was drawn from working with patients with chronic pain conditions and associated psychological difficulties. It was their almost ubiquitous experience of poor sleep that first drew him to specialising in the field of sleep and sleep disorders.

Assessments / One-off appointments
£175 per 90 minute appointment plus an assessment letter to your GP

The first part of the process is to arrange an assessment appointment. Assessment appointments take an hour and don't come with any obligation to start therapy. During the appointment we'll discuss our confidentiality policy, your current difficulties, the nature of the therapy itself and the goals for treatment. Often, if it's helpful, we might also look at some preliminary recommendations on how to begin the work. If we decide to go ahead with treatment, we'll also arrange and book in the treatment sessions, making sure that we find a time that's convenient for you. After the appointment, the standard practice is to send an assessment letter to your GP to keep them in loop.

For some people, having a discussion about their sleep might be all they're looking to do. It may also be the case that after one session you've got all you need. One-off consultations are standalone appointments and are different from assessments. If you decide that you'd like to begin a course of therapy, we would then then begin with an assessment appointment prior to commencing therapy.

Ongoing appointments
£95 per one hour appointment

The therapy appointments are also for an hour each and take place weekly. At the assessment appointment we will have booked in a block of 6 appointments. However, if for whatever reason you decide not use them all we can refund whatever remains unused.
