Simon Rudd (MA) Integrative Psychotherapist || UKCP BACP
I am an integrative psychotherapist - this means my approach to therapy utilises insight and wisdom from a range of psychotherapeutic traditions. In our work together we will explore and reflect on your developmental and relational patterns from the past; as well as working in a compassionate way with your here and now reality.
As well as private practice I am an experienced counsellor working in higher education and have a special interest in working with Study Abroad and international students who arrive in the UK adrift from the usual support networks of family, community and belonging. I am especially interested in supporting people find their feet again following such social upheaval.
I established a counselling service for a leading higher education institute after my own experience at university in the early noughties highlighted to me the importance of connection when we are at sea. I continue to work as a therapist in the university sector alongside consultancy and training for a range of providers.
How talking heals
Many people find that talking about their story with a professional - often for the first time, but something they have 'kept putting off' precipitates a natural process of change, acceptance and courage to face what has been hijacking our lives.
I find mindfulness informed psychotherapy a key tool to boost resilience in short term work- this means practical methods of feeling our feelings without fear or overwhelm, as well as offering open ended exploratory psychotherapy.
What you can expect
I work from a welcoming, warm and confidential room in central London as well as in north London. In our first meeting we will talk about what it is that led you to arrive at this point in your life. Meetings would then take place weekly.
Areas I work with
Areas of special interest include:
- negotiating life transitions,
- working with loss, bereavement, and trauma,
- anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and relationship challenges.
- cultural dislocation and identity.
I am registered with GeoBlue and Vitality health insurance.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a Registered member of the BACP and UKCP psychotherapist trained at the Minster Centre, the leading integrative training provider in the UK and Europe. This rigorous training has equipped me with a set of tools and experience that I can use to support you.
Alongside 1:1 counselling I work as a counsellor in Higher Education where I have experience working with a wide range of presenting issues such as; bereavement, acculturation, loss, depression, anxiety, anger and relationship breakdown; identity and sexuality issues.
In private practice I have a particular interest in working with young men negotiating their relationships and challenges of early adulthood.
I am also experienced in working with clients to help them re-discover disowned aspects of themselves, sometimes buried deep beneath shame and historically understandable adaptations to trauma and past loss. I have experience of the importance of working with the breath and other meditative traditions to support therapy.
As part of my ongoing commitment to professional development and growth I attend regular supervision and attendance at conference and workshops.
