Simon Phelps BA(Hons), MSc, HND, MBACP
SADLY DUE TO HEALTH REASONS I AM STARTING A LONG SABBATICAL SO AM UNAVAILABLE FOR COUNSELLING OR SUPERVISION. MY APOLOGIES TO ALL NEW OR RETURNING CLIENTS.
I am an experienced, professionally trained and qualified Humanistic counsellor. I work with children, young people and adults and am a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP).
My approach is based upon Humanistic theories around respect for the individual and their autonomy. Establishing a genuine counselling relationship is central to my way of working. I use a range of approaches within my work depending on what the client needs. I work with a flexible and creative style tailored to the individual client. We are all unique, one size does not fit all.
I have had a very broad and varied experience of life. I believe this gives me considerable personal insight and allows me to empathise with many of my clients individual reasons for coming into counselling.
Previous clients have considered me to be a very grounded individual with a warm, solid presence and a good sense of humour. I can be gently challenging where necessary while being highly supportive and compassionate.
I have worked with a wide range of clients and have provided long term complex counselling support as well as short term focused work. I have undertaken a considerable amount of personal counselling and continue to work on myself and undertake training as part of my on-going professional development.
I am qualified as a supervisor also as I enjoy supporting other counsellors support their own clients. I aim to provide encouragement and guidance and to work in a collegiate manner suitable to the experience of my supervisees. I supervise both individuals and for organisations.

I am also interested in 'mid life' issues and supporting disabled people.
Providing counselling to carers over a number of years has meant that I have supported people who have been providing significant care to children, partners or parents etc. Concerns covered have included mental health issues, sexual / historical abuse, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, living with pain, loss of identity and bereavement, alcohol and drug misuse etc .
In my private practice I have worked with a wide range of clients from many backgrounds. Sometimes this has involved deeper longer term work whilst other clients have required more short-term focused sessions.

I work from home in a comfortable and calm environment. There is parking outside and a bus link close by. I offer access to clients with disabilities.
If you think you would like to arrange an initial meeting to see whether you feel that counselling with myself would be right for you then call me and we can arrange a suitable time. At this meeting I will explain to you the counselling process and if we both feel it will be beneficial we can arrange regular weekly sessions.
