About me

If you are reading this now because something in your life is not working and you want to talk with me about that, phone or email me to make an appointment - I offer a free initial session with no obligation.

My style of working over 25 years has emphasised the importance of the relationship between therapist/counsellor and client. I aim to establish a relationship that is safe enough for you to give voice to, think about and develop awareness of patterns of relating, feeling, thinking and behaving. These patterns can, at times, be deeply hidden even from ourselves and yet they disturb or upset, even sabotage, our ability to live our lives in the way we want. Such distress may be why you are reading this now.

I am available to help you identify and work on these patterns. I work on a weekly basis over a mutually agreed short term period or over a longer, open ended period of time. Currently all my work is offered online via Zoom; or, if you prefer, by phone. This may change later this year.

I have worked with a variety of presentations; these have included: depression; anxiety; relationship difficulties; end of life care and life-limiting illness; grief/bereavement; issues resulting from abusive or traumatic experience; spiritual difficulties; problems with professional or work life; and, anything that gets in the way of you leading a meaningful life.

I have worked in wide range of professional context including private practice, counselling agencies and therapeutic practice within other complementary healthcare roles. As a result, I have a broad interest in all psychotherapeutic approaches and whilst not trained in an integrative way, I am naturally inclined to be interested in a range of therapeutic modalities.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registration. Reg number - 2011162373.  Registration current.

My training includes:

  • Current training: Final year of 3 year Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP-UK) training:  an Attachment-based trauma model;
  • 1997-2002: Diploma and Adv. Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling ;
  • 2010: Masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy - my dissertation explored how 'attachment narratives' were told and understood within a therapeutic context;
  • 2012: Post Qualifying Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy;
  • 2012: Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) - Theory and Clinical Training successfully completed though I am not formally registered as a DIT Therapist
  • 2015: Post graduate certificate in Education (PGCE) - a degree level teaching qualification
