About me

I am a BACP registered counsellor working in West Sussex. I am aware that we can all face difficulties from time to time. We may be taken over by unhelpful patterns and emotions, affected by stressful events or perhaps we feel that we have not lived the life we wanted. Counselling can help you achieve deeper insight into who you are and how you fit with those around you; it may give you more balance in managing your emotions, and greater clarity of purpose. However, no two people are the same. I work in a way that respects your individuality: your race, gender, age, sexuality and background. I aim to explore the world from your perspective and experience and, by deepening your awareness of yourself, help you ensure that the life you are living truly reflects who you want to be.

I offer you a confidential and safe space to talk. We will examine and explore what has happened before, what is going on now and what you want from the future. My approach is relational - we work together to see what emerges. I am informed by the psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and integrative schools of therapy. These explore both the effect of the past and how we are able relate to others today. I work with what you bring and take an open, warm and non-judgmental approach to your concerns. I then find ways to share back with you what I observe you saying and feeling. Hopefully this mutual process will bring you greater understanding of your personal dynamics and enable you to make the choices and take the actions you desire.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling at Regents University, London and am qualified to work with a wide range of issues from anxiety and depression, to identity crisis, relationship problems, self harm, feelings of stress or low self esteem. I have a training in CBT skills endorsed by BACP and COSRT and specialist experience in working with bereavement and loss, post-natal depression, and addiction issues. I have been awarded the British Psychological Society's Approved Certificate in Trauma Treatments. I am a trained Soul Midwife and am interested in working with those reaching the end of their life or facing a terminal diagnosis. I also run a Bereavement Awareness course in local communities. My first degree was a BA in English Literature from Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
