About me

I am a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist, with many years of experience working both in the NHS and in private practice.

In private practice I welcome anyone who feels that psychotherapy may be of help, whether you are looking to have just a few sessions to think about a specific issue or situation, or would like to consider longer-term therapy. Depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, illness, bereavement, self-esteem, employment, life-changes, are just some of the reasons why you may want to try psychotherapy.

In my role as Consultant Psychotherapist and head of the Counselling and Psychotherapy Department at King's College Hospital, I was leading a team of psychotherapists offering psychodynamic psychotherapy for inpatients, outpatients and their relatives, and helping those who were battling with medical illness or injury and at times, facing death. Modern life often revolves around being able, healthy and mobile, and medical illness or physical injury, whether chronic or acute, curable or terminal, can have profound social and psychological impact. Working with these issues is an ongoing interest and one of my specialities.

In my experience, psychotherapy can help you make sense of what you are going through, face some difficult feelings and thoughts, feel less overwhelmed by your worries and fears, and make some choices and decisions. You may just need and want a few sessions to think about what is going on with you, or a longer time to be in therapy and explore present and past experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied for a PhD in Psychology at King's College London, and for a MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling at Greenwich University. I trained in Psychoanalytic Studies at the Tavistock Clinic and took courses in Assessment and in Supervision Skills with the British Association of Psychotherapists. My work experience includes:

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
