About me

Hi, my name is Shelley and I am an Integrative Counsellor with over 15 years experience. I work with people of all ages, individually, in couples or as a family group. I currently run a small private practice along side my part time NHS Job (working with children and Families).

I will offer a quiet reflective space for you to explore your emotions, thoughts and experiences and how they impact you, your relationships and your current experiences. I offer an impartial, safe, respectful and non judgemental opportunity for you to explore and, when appropriate change your experiences. Safeguarding both you and I during our counselling relationship is paramount to my practice, I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics, I attend regular supervision (to ensure my safe practice) and am fully insured to practice.

As I work with children, Young people and adults, the format of my sessions will reflect the age and emotional ability of those in the room. I can support people through depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relational issues and Family issues. I also offer support to students, allowing them to reach their potential.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, if you would like to know more, please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 15 years experience working both in the private and public sector. I am a registered member of the BACP and am currently working towards accreditation. I originally trained as an Integrative Counsellor, which allowed me to work within both a Person Centred and Psychodynamic approach. Following this, I updated my skills with a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a Degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practice and a post graduate diploma in Systemic Family Practice (SFP) & Supervision Skills for Mental Health. More recently I have completed training in Non Violence Resistance (NVR) parenting approach. Working within the NHS has offered the opportunity to study various theories which are helpful for Trauma, Sexual Abuse, Attachment and Behavioural issues, these include Solution Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy and The impact of trauma and loss on child development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
