About me

Hello thanks for looking at my profile, I know it can be scary when you first start looking for help so here's a bit about me and what I can offer you.

I am one of a few Psychodynamic counsellors practicing which means among other things I look at relationships in the past and how they link to present relationships. I have experience of working with people who have a wide range of problems, having worked in a number of different counselling agencies I have seen all types of people in different circumstances. At present I have decided to concentrate on working in my private practice which I do from a dedicated room in my house. The surrounding area is peaceful and quiet so I am able to offer a private and confidential space where you can think about and explore your issue's.

I have a Certificate and a Higher Education Diploma in Contemporary Pyschodynamic Counselling. I did my training at the University of Leicester which was renowned throughout the country for its high quality training courses.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and I adhere to their professional code of ethics of good practice

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

We all need emotional support from time to time and we can't always turn to family and friends. We will sit in a comfortable room where you will talk and I will listen and I will reflect back what I have heard so we can try to make sense of your issues. It can be helpful to talk to someone in confidence who is impartial and non-judgemental. These conversations can help us to think about difficult feelings or situations and we may see more clearly how to resolve them. Some of the issues people come to counselling to discuss include feelings of loss, low mood or worry, others may be having difficulty handling bereavement, separation and relationships at home and work. I work in a quiet countryside location near Melton Mowbray, our first session will be about getting to know each other I will let you know about confidentiality and the BACP code of ethics that I work within. I know this sounds a little formal to start with but our following weekly sessions will be about building a relationship of trust which can take some time but during that process you will be listened to with empathy, caring & understanding

In the present climate of the public health emergency related to Coronavirus I will be offering online counselling via Skype, FaceTime.
