Sharon Dower qualified, experienced Counsellor & Supervisor
I aim to provide a safe, comfortable place, to listen and allow you to feel supported to help you overcome issues, worries or difficulties.
I am a fully qualified counsellor, supervisor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have a long-held belief in each person inner ability and potential, which is very much at the heart of my counselling practice and theoretical model.
This means that I won't impose my views on you or tell you what to do. My role is to be with you as you make sense of your feelings, thoughts and behaviours and to encourage you to reconnect with yourself and to uncover your own resources. I will support you in moving forward so that you can realise your full potential.
This is achieved by means of a genuine therapeutic relationship in a warm environment where you can feel safe, supported and free to explore whatever difficulties you may be facing.
I listen emphatically so that I can understand you and what you are experiencing; feeling heard and understood allows us to accept ourselves more, to become self aware with being who we truly are.
Approaching counselling for the first time can be a daunting experience. I offer a free initial consultation for you to ask any questions about me and about the counselling process, and to discuss any concerns you may have. This is also an opportunity for us to meet and get a sense of whether we can work together.
Here is a little about me to help you consider if I might be the right person to share your journey. My clients say that they experience me as warm, genuinely caring, gently challenging and that they were surprised how easy they found it to share, often for the first time ever, their issues, difficulties, and sadness I focus to offer empathy and I feel immensely privileged and moved to be invited into my clients' sometimes traumatic and troubled pasts, as we begin together to explore deep emotional wounds. I have enormous respect for the courage it often takes to begin to gradually and gently reveal the most painful and difficult, experiences.
As an experienced practitioner I offer a wealth of working with a very wide variety of people, and an even wider range of issues, problems and difficulties. I have experience of counselling students at Liverpool hope university, as well as counselling at a Women's center.I have worked with various employee assistance organisations and have provided counselling, wellbeing services to wide range of public and private companies.
