I am a qualified counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist with many years experience of working with adults of all ages, helping them improve relationships, manage emotional difficulties, and work towards positive change in their lives. For 28 years, I worked within major organisations in the area of counselling and behavioural change, problem solving and crisis management before establishing a private practice. My training and experience enables me to offer a range of interventions within therapy to help with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, panic disorder, phobias, anger, complex trauma, PTSD, relationship and family difficulties. Please see the list below for a full summary of the issues that I can assist with.
Most of us experience emotional challenges in our lives that can impact on our work, relationships and our well-being and it is not unusual to seek counselling as a method of working through our problems. You may be going through a difficult period in your life or have an issue that you have been struggling with for a while. You may be in the middle of a current crisis which is causing you a lot of stress, or struggling to manage distressing thoughts and feelings, or perhaps just feeling sad without knowing why. Whatever the issue, I provide a safe, confidential and comfortable environment so that you can work through any difficulties and achieve a greater peace of mind.
I have the fundamental belief that people are experts in their own lives, but that sometimes when we are in crisis or when problems are overwhelming, it can be difficult to see a way forward. I see the aim of counselling as a means whereby people can be helped to reconnect with their inner resources and achieve the changes they wish. We can work together so that you can have a clearer view of your choices and make sense of what is worrying you.
How my sessions work and what to expect:
Due to Covid restrictions, I am not currently able to offer face to face counselling. I am however providing online counselling sessions via various video conferencing platforms. Although online counselling sessions may not be what you originally hoped for, the sessions do work very well and allow an element of face-to-face contact between us, even if it is not currently possible to physically be in the same room together.
Whatever form counselling takes, it is often difficult to take the first step to seek therapy and it is important that once you do, you feel at ease with the counsellor. The first appointment is therefore a helpful opportunity for us to meet and for you to decide whether you will feel comfortable with the counselling process. Most importantly, it allows us time to talk about the issues you would like help with. We can discuss any queries you may have about counselling and whether the approach I offer may be helpful for you. I offer this initial session at a reduced rate and there is no obligation to you continuing sessions afterwards.
If you decide to continue counselling with me, each session lasts 50 minutes and the number of sessions can be open ended or short term. We can discuss what may be most helpful for you when we meet. I will listen carefully to what has brought you to counselling and what you want to gain from the experience. I will not judge you nor direct you towards anything, as the space is for you to explore your thoughts and experiences.
My counselling work is underpinned by the psychodynamic approach, which is based on the view that our feelings, thoughts and behaviour are influenced by past experiences and relationships. Through working with you in counselling, our aim together would be to help understand how these experiences may be affecting your present day life and relationships. During this process, you will be able to see your options more clearly and have the opportunity and confidence to make changes if you want to. My skills and my experience enable me to utilise different techniques and tailor them to your individual need depending on what may be most helpful to you.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
