About me
Welcome, and thank you for choosing to read more about me. I know choosing a counsellor can feel a little daunting, but know that whatever you bring to therapy, I will always offer you compassion, sensitivity and understanding. My first session is always free and without obligation, so you will know that I'm the right 'fit' for you before deciding to continue.
As a Person-Centred counsellor, I strongly believe in putting my clients needs first, and adapting my therapeutic approach to individual needs, rather than asking clients to adapt to me. As we are all unique individuals, and all have a unique story, I do not believe counselling should be a 'one size fits all' experience. While the majority of my work is talking therapy, I do also integrate other methods and approaches where I feel it will be of benefit.
The core of my work is, of course, providing a safe space where feelings and thoughts can be explored openly and honestly. Really hearing someone isn't just about listening, but about taking the time to understand and empathise, and therefore being able to help join the dots between negative or harmful patterns and behaviours to find long term solutions and healing.
Throughout my work, my support is always unconditional, and I do not judge or discriminate. I work with clients from all walks of life, all with different life experiences, different viewpoints and different lifestyles.
Although I am a general counsellor, with a broad base of experience, I have an especially deep understanding of working with childhood traumas and the long-term affects trauma or abuse can have in adulthood, including anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.
Having worked previously with agencies and charities offering low cost counselling, I believe passionately that therapy should be available to anyone who needs it without restriction or long waiting lists. I therefore offer a number of concessionary and discounted sessions, especially to those in my local community. I am always happy to have a chat to discuss individual situations.
No problem is either too big or too small to bring to counselling if it is affecting you. I urge anyone feeling that they could benefit from help or support to reach out before they reach crisis point.
Training, qualifications & experience
I not only have a professional counselling qualification, but also a degree in Psychology. I hold an enhanced DBS, and am a professional member of the BACP, holding to their policies of standards and ethics. I am also fully trained in online therapy with the different challenges this can bring.
I work with both neurotypical and neurodivergent clients, and clients from all walks of life. I pride myself on being completely non-judgemental, regardless of the topics brought to me, lifestyle, or personal circumstances.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
