About me

I am aware that in making the decision to access a talking therapy you are taking the first courageous step towards positive change. Counselling can help if you are experiencing difficulties, distress or anxiety in your life either as a result of a present situation or maybe something that has happened in your past that you would like to make sense of.

We live in a world that seems to put us under ever increasing amounts of pressure or expectation in all sorts of ways and for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes things can get too much and we may feel less able to cope, which may affect family relationships as well as work and peer relationships.
Talking things through can help.

I am a qualified, registered, accredited and experienced Psychodynamic Pyschotherapist able to work with a wide range of presenting issues, including, but not limited to, abuse (sexual, emotional, domestic, financial, institutional or physical), trauma, suicide and self harm, addictions, anxiety, divorce, separation, betrayal.

Psychodynamic therapy works by exploring how your personality, together with your life experiences, influence your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationships. This will enhance your understanding of yourself and so promote the capacity for positive change.

I am also a trained and registered LINK Barnardo's Approved Adoption Counsellor.

How it works:
We agree on a specified time and place for an initial consultation, which usually takes about an hour and is an opportunity for you to tell me about yourself and what has brought you to seek counselling. I will explain to you how I work and we will then think about how you would like to proceed.

Ongoing sessions:
If, between us, we decide that this is the right approach for you, we will agree on a regular once weekly day and time with each session being 50 minutes long.

I offer open-ended long term therapy, short term brief dynamic interventions, attachment/relational therapy.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
