Sarah Smith MA RDMP (ADMP UK)
The Practice Rooms
39 Cotham Hill
I am a Psychotherapist in private practice, working mainly in Clifton Village and Cotham Hill, Bristol (http://www.thepracticerooms.co.uk/). I have over 6 years of experience working as a therapist in a range of mental health settings, and in addition to my private practice, I also work for a private hospital group where I facilitate their Body Image group therapy programme for patients with an Eating Disorder diagnosis.
I have a particular interest in working with clients who may be experiencing a problematic connection with their body; for example, those with Eating Disorders, or distress around Body Image. I draw upon a combination of verbal psychotherapy, and experiential approaches informed by Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP). Movement and other creative methods, such as drawing or sensory exploration are offered as a bridge to communication when talking about a particular issue or theme may be difficult. For more information about DMP, please see www.admp.org.uk
I also offer Body Image psychoeducational work, encouraging the development of a mindful, accepting connection with the body, in addition incorporating strategies for promoting positive self-esteem.
I am currently completing Systemic/Family Therapy training, and if desired, would be interested to explore with you how family and systemic influences may be relevant to your recovery.
Both one-to-one and small group therapy offered- please contact me for more details.
