About me

Dr Sarah McCrimmon, DClinPsy, BSc (Hons), DipNeuro, BPS QiCN, CPsychol

I am a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Chartered Clinical Psychologist with twenty years' experience in specialist brain injury rehabilitation, dementia and memory assessment services. I am based near Brighton, Sussex, and provide specialist neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation for adults with acquired brain injuries, dementia and neurological conditions across East and West Sussex.

What I Provide

  • Neuropsychological Assessment & Dementia Assessment

This is a comprehensive assessment of an individual's cognitive ('thinking') skills and can be used to identify strengths and weaknesses, contribute towards diagnosis (e.g. dementia) or provide recommendations for further rehabilitation.

  • Neurorehabilitation & Therapy

I have worked for many years in NHS rehabilitation services, and am highly experienced in helping individuals adjust to the consequences of brain injury or living with a neurological condition. I can provide specialist rehabilitation, counselling and therapy to help improve or manage the cognitive, emotional or behavioural changes that can cause distress for some individuals and their families.

  • Supervision, Training and Consultation

I am able to provide regular or ad hoc supervision, training and consultation to other psychologists and healthcare professionals. I am listed on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors and have extensive experience of facilitating group and individual supervision sessions in my NHS role.

I provide a service for individuals, couples and families affected by:

  • acquired brain injury (e.g. traumatic brain injury, stroke, hypoxic brain injury, encephalitis, hydrocephalus)
  • long term neurological conditions (e.g. multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy)
  • mild cognitive impairment and dementia (e.g. Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal, vascular, and Lewy body dementias)
  • chronic health problems, long term conditions and changes in physical functioning

I also provide a service for individuals:

  • who do not have a diagnosis, but are concerned about changes in their memory, thinking and/or language
  • who would like to learn more about their cognitive strengths and/or weaknesses
  • who wish to develop strategies to manage any difficulties they are experiencing, or prepare for cognitively demanding activities such as interviews or exams
  • who wish to obtain a report on their intellectual functioning

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a full member of the Division of Clinical Psychology and I am listed on the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists, indicating further specialist training and experience within the area of neuropsychology.
  • I have completed a diploma in clinical neuropsychology at distinction level in addition to the British Psychological Society's Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology.
  • I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (Registration No: PYL19389) and a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society (Membership No: 079188).
  • I am listed on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS), which recognises psychologists with specialist expertise in supervision.
  • I have twenty years' experience working in inpatient, outpatient and community settings within the NHS, offering assessment, rehabilitation and diagnostic services to individuals who have acquired brain injury, long term neurological conditions and dementia. This has included work in specialist community neurorehabilitation teams, memory assessment services, dementia and older adult mental health services, and acute and post-acute specialist inpatient units.

I adhere to professional guidelines and the HCPC and BPS code of conduct, and conscientiously follow national recommendations and the latest research evidence in order to provide a quality service.
