About me

Hello, welcome to my profile.
I have been counselling for over 25 years, in a GP practice, within the Voluntary sector and privately. Whatever is troubling you - relationship or family issues, anxiety, depression, addictions, eating disorders, trauma, bereavement, sadness etc - I can provide a warm, safe and non-judgemental environment in which you can explore the issues that are worrying you.

My aim is to help you to make sense of your inner turmoil, recognise behaviours and patterns that may be blocking you and enable you to take back control. The ultimate goal is that you can live your life to the full and embrace the future.

I do not believe in the "one size fits all" approach, as each person responds in their own unique way. Consequently, I adopt an Integrative approach and use a variety of counselling techniques as appropriate to each individual client.
There are no rules regarding contracts or numbers of sessions; some clients feel that their needs have been met after one or two sessions and some engage in long-term counselling.
As well as to face-to-face sessions, I can also provide telephone and online counselling.

In addition to counselling, I have also worked for many years delivering Communication Skills training to individuals and in companies. Please feel free to contact me if you would like coaching in assertiveness, building self-confidence, communication skills, interview techniques etc.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Wales (Newport) and have been in practice since 1996.

My technique is Integrative counselling with a Person Centred approach and incorporating Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy methods when appropriate.

My experience has been gained over many years, working in the NHS Primary Care, the voluntary sector and in private practice. Client issues include addictions - drugs, alcohol, sex and helping family members of addicts - eating disorders, OCD, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, abuse, PTSD, anger, depression, suicidal thoughts, bereavement, loss, feeling sad and issues arising from medical conditions including organ transplantation.

My client base has ranged from young adolescents to the elderly and I work with individuals and couples.

In my work in an international Management Training company, I also train individuals and groups in the private and business sectors in communication skills.

I am a Member of BACP and abide by their Code of Ethics, have appropriate supervision and insurance.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
