I believe in the potential or 'better version' of every individual & my aim is that together we can discover your inner resources that can help you get the most out of counselling & move forward carrying less inner turmoil

I am able to support adults, couples, young people and teenagers in a range of issues including:

  • Couples Counselling

My aim is to provide you with a warm and caring environment, where you will not feel judged or discounted in any way as you share your problem or dilemma. I endeavour to be empathic and understanding towards all my clients and respect them in their individuality.

I understand that it's important to feel safe and feel you can trust your counsellor as you explore sensitive or painful experiences or issues which can very often feel embarrassing or intensely emotional to re-visit.

My hope for all my clients is that they complete their counselling journey feeling better able to deal with an issue or experience.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling  awarded through Manchester Metropolitan University.

As well as my main qualification I have also undertaken further training in Mindfulness, CBT, and Hypnotherapy and EMDR.

I am able to offer Supervision to fellow counsellors and Student Counsellors using the 7 Eyed Model.

I have Accredited Registrant membership with the National Counselling Society  & am bound by their framework for ethics & good practice.

I am a recognised provider for several Private Medical Insurance Providers.

I take my professional development seriously and attend several workshops & training days each year to improve and enhance my practice.

I have a particular interest in Anxiety Management and helping clients learn & develop techniques to manage their anxiety.
I also enjoy helping clients manage and control Anger Issues and issues with Communication, using Mindfulness and CBT and now Hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy can be used in the sessions where appropriate and can help to enhance a client’s understanding and awareness. Using deep relaxation we can ‘journey’ to the subconscious which can be hugely beneficial to the therapeutic process and personal growth and development.

During my training I counselled on placement at Reaseheath College near Nantwich where I supported young people work through a range of issues, and also at Brine Leas High School in Nantwich.

As well as my private practice I have also provided counselling at Brine Leas High School & in a voluntary & paid role for The Dove Service in Hanley, which is a bereavement charity offering counselling & support to those affected by bereavement & significant loss including life-changing illness.

I see adults, couples & teenagers at my private practice in Nantwich. My training and experience allows me to support clients wishing to work on any issue & my training was based on the 'Person-Centred' approach. I also offer clients video call appointments which must be booked in the usual way as face to face sessions

Whilst my approach is underpinned by my Person-Centred training, I also like to work adaptively with clients, as individuals and am able to offer the following as part of the sessions if I feel it may be beneficial:
Certain issues such as Anxiety, Depression or Anger can sometimes benefit from 'CBT' (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Relaxation & Breathing Techniques, Mindfulness & Meditation. Hypnotherapy (Post Graduate Certificate in Integrating Hypnotherapy with Psychotherapy- Level 7. Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy. Dr Jonathan Lloyd.

Certificate in EMDR Therapy - Manchester College of Coaching & Hypnotherapy.

I also have a wider knowledge and professional experience  in personality disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder & Narcissism, in relationships and within families.

While I'm not counselling I enjoy alot of swimming and getting out and about in the countryside.

"I believe in the client's ability to find their answers and inner peace as an outcome of our work together."

Further information

Deciding to start counselling can be a brave step. It can often mean looking at a past experience or issue that we might have been putting off dealing with until now. What is 'Person-Centred'?

Often known as the 'Rogerian' approach & founded by the American Psychologist Carl Rogers; this approach works on the theory that the Counsellor must provide certain 'core conditions' within the counselling relationship in order for the client to experience 'therapeutic change or movement' EMPATHY. CONGRUANCE. UNCONDITIONAL POSITIVE REGARD.
I am fundamentally a Person-Centred counsellor, who likes to work integrively, according to the individual I am working with and the issues they would like to resolve.

What is CBT? ( Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

CBT can be useful for clients suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Stress & Anger. Rather than deliver this in a 'prescriptive, directive' way, I prefer to work with the client to discuss techniques and strategies together, that may work for them.

This might include looking at Negative Thinking patterns. Challenging negative thoughts and ideas about oneself, & discussing how thoughts, feelings & behavior all connect with one another.. How to break this negative cycle, and realise the key factors that have been keeping the cycle going.

What is Mindfulness, Meditation & Relaxation Exercises?

Mindfulness and relaxation can be useful techniques to calm the mind and body & help clients experiencing Panic, Anger, Anxiety & Stress.
I help clients to understand why we experience the 'fight or flight' response....Think cave people & sabre tooth tigers!
..and also discuss simple mindfulness techniques, such as breathing exercises that can be extremely helpful in combating difficult emotions such as Anxiety or Anger.

Many people expect they might be given advice or 'homework' when they go to counselling. This is not the kind of counselling I do. I like to discuss with clients 'strategies' or 'tools', as a suggestion..Something that may not be for them , but perhaps they could give it a try.

Sometimes counselling is a little like taking a look at a picture you have been looking at alone, but now you are looking at it with a second pair of eyes and can see things in the picture that weren't clear to you before....Or perhaps it is a mirror and you are now able to see yourself differently.
