About me

I'm a warm, compassionate, empathic counsellor who can help if you're feeling anxious, depressed or stressed. You might feel apprehensive about contacting a counsellor for the first time. I understand that and you will be gently and warmly welcomed if you decide to get in touch.

In counselling sessions we look at patterns of thinking and relating to others, guiding you towards change so that you can become more of the person that you'd like to be.

Some of these patterns may have their roots in the past, and in earlier experiences. We gently uncover these and think together about how they might be affecting your life now. If you are feeling anxious, depressed or stressed, this can help calm and uplift your feelings.

I know from experience how hard life can be, and how counselling can help you become more resilient, come back more easily from setbacks, and become more able to feel, without those feelings becoming overwhelming. You might want to untangle confusing thoughts and worries or deal with  anger. I am here for that too.

Counselling with me is a calm and safe place to talk, where what you say is confidential between us. Counselling is a place where you will not be judged, leaving things open for you to talk about whatever you wish, and meaning that there are opportunities for exploring things that might feel difficult.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in a local counselling clinic, the Rock Clinic and also as a counsellor for a charity with women who have experienced trauma and domestic violence.

I have a background of working with young people with autism and disabilities and have lots of experience of working with adults who are neurodivergent, including ADHD and autism.

I work in a trauma-informed way and am currently studying for a Diploma in Trauma at the NAOS Institute.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from the University of Brighton.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer an initial free phone call in which we can talk about what you are looking for from counselling. From there I can offer a reduced rate (£25) first session (either in person or online). This is an opportunity for you to find out if I'm the right counsellor for you, and if what I offer fits with what you want. If you want to continue, the next time we meet will be an assessment session, where you can talk more about your background. After this, sessions are open for whatever you want to bring.
