About me

Are you facing issues or difficulties in your life? Are you troubled by something in the past or present? Are you struggling with your mental health? Are you suffering from domestic violence or abuse? Do you need to re-build your confidence and self-esteem? Do you need help going forward with your life?

You don't have to cope alone.

I am a qualified, experienced counsellor/Psychotherapist. I offer long term or short term counselling and specialise in working with people struggling with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement/Loss
  • Childhood & Recent Sexual Abuse
  • Depression
  • Disassociation
  • Domestic Abuse (From either Partner, Ex Partner or Family Members)
  • Panic / Panic Attacks
  • Relationship Issues
  • Self Esteem
  • Self Harm
  • Stress
  • Trauma
  • Unresolved Childhood Issues

What to expect from therapy with me

Talking with an experienced therapist who has been trained to listen, not just to what you say but to also what isn’t being said, in a safe space can help you understand yourself more and see your situation more clearly. It is about exploring what is troubling you and working at a deeper level, to uncover what is behind it, what drives it and what keeps it going. Although therapy won't solve all your problems, it can help you to make sense of things and to see things more clearly so that your issues, concerns or past will have less of an impact on your everyday life and help you live more effectively.

How I work

I work in a psychodynamic way in that my aim is to help people see themselves more clearly and to know themselves better, helping them to face and make sense of what is troubling them. I focus on how problems and conflicts in adulthood may stem from what we experienced in childhood, and how this has impacted on how we relate to ourselves and other people as well as how we are drawn into repeating the same patterns time and time again.

My experience

I ran the Domestic Abuse service at Portsmouth Abuse and Rape Counselling (PARCS) from 2016 to 2019. I initially joined PARCS in 2013 where I counselled victims who had experienced sexual abuse with associated issues of struggling with mental health and post-traumatic stress. Prior to this I was an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate for many years and I also worked along-side Hampshire Police as a frontline worker assisting Domestic Abuse victims who had called 999.

I now work solely as a private counsellor based in my practices in Portsmouth and Havant.

I am a committed, caring and resilient practitioner, who confidently supports individuals with a wide range of issues and presenting problems. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
