About me

Hi, my name is Sarah Blunden and I am an accredited counsellor with the BACP. I provide counselling for adults and children and counselling supervision within the Stoke-on-Trent area.

I chose to become a counsellor because I have had many personal life experiences that I feel helps me to empathise more with all I work with. Not that what I have experienced will have the same effect on me that it has on you. We're humans. We experience things differently. There is no right or wrong way with how we deal with the trauma or stresses we live with, but when it starts having a negative impact in our daily lives, that’s when we look for better ways to cope.

So why choose counselling?

Sometimes we get to a point in our lives where things happen or creep up and we literally do not know where to go, who to talk to and how we can make things better. It is a very big decision to start counselling. It is talking about things that make you feel sad, lonely, depressed, anxious, angry, confused etc. and sometimes its talking about things that seem that long ago, it is not worth dragging it back up again. When in reality, it has always been there affecting your life in some way, you might not have recognised it.

Counselling is a safe place where you can talk to someone who does not know you. This can make it easier because the counsellor has no emotional attachment to your life, and will not judge you or tell you how you should be living.

What I offer.

The counselling I provide can be both long term and short term.

My main counselling practice is Person Centred Therapy, which focusses more on how you feel. I do not offer advice or give diagnosis. I will support you in making your own decisions.

I do use various methods when I am counselling because I recognise sometimes people find it difficult to talk. It all depends on what works best for you, when we are working together. Some like to draw while talking, some like to write, some like to use objects to describe how they feel, others just like to talk. It is all about what makes you feel more comfortable.

I also provide counselling supervision to support other counselling practitioners who have a client caseload. I work from the seven eyed supervision model.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
