About me

Hello I'm Sara! A Counselling Psychologist and Clinical Hypnotist at Love2Live Therapies and my aim is to help and support you with your aim.

I offer two types of therapy:

  1. Person Centred Counselling - a 'being' therapy
  2. Hypnotherapy - both 'being' and 'doing' therapy

Counselling - a 'being' therapy

My aim as a therapist is to be with you and to offer you a time and a safe place where you can explore issues which may feel too worrying or confusing to explore alone.

Counselling offers an opportunity for you to gain understanding about yourself and your situation in a confidential, safe, comfortable, calm environment and in a way that is useful to you.

Together we will work towards the aim you have set for therapy, I will support you as a qualified ethical professional towards achieving the aim you have identified.

Person Centred counselling is a humanistic therapy. We are all humans but are all individuals with different needs.

Not one style of counselling will suit everybody; do you learn through talking or creating hands on? Or do you learn best watching and learning from examples? It's important to work in a way that is best suited to you to ensure you get the most out of your therapy sessions.

I work in a multi sensory way as this is impactful for therapeutic change and a very supportive way of working. It will give you the tools you can use in daily life to soothe and motivate depending on the aims you have set for yourself. It really makes a difference to how you live your life, how you feel and how you respond,  it also helps boost your resilience to life's challenges . My clients have said they find this an effective and impactful approach to help and support them in getting to where they want to be.

Talking and listening  - Sharing your story is an important part of the therapy but we can do this in different ways:

  • CBT style including worksheets, questionnaires & techniques
  • Nature therapy - using natural elements of nature eg stones, trees to inspire, relax and reflect.

Walk and Talk - socially distanced at this time

I have a love for nature; it is so healing and it is all around us when we take time to connect with it. If you would like a socially distanced walk and talk session we can arrange to meet outdoors or we can work with Nature Therapy online or on the phone. It's a wonderfully accessible and healing way in which to work.

The benefits of adding a bit of Hypnotherapy...

  • whole body relaxation
  • pain relief,
  • phobias, and addictions,
  • fears and also
  • confidence boosting techniques
  • personal awareness
  • grief work
  • shamanic journeying for those that value that path
  • immune boosting to fight illness
  • problem solving
  • creative solutions
  • anxiety reduction

Over time I have come to see the benefits that this type of work offers to my clients,  and how they really value this powerful way of working alongside the counselling support. It can really speed up the counselling process and can offer real ease when you feel vulnerable and worn out from whatever is on your mind right now.

How might I help you?

You are very welcome to contact me for a 30 minute phone session or zoom chat, it gives you an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have.

To get the ball rolling; an introductory session.

During the introductory session you can choose if you'd like to do a free assessment to give you an overview of your personality and your way of being in the world, it can be emailed to you for you to read at your leisure. Alternatively this can be done at another time, it's a really good overall tool to offer self reflection and it can help us move quickly into an effective therapeutic relationship with a bit of fun along the way.  Clients tell me its accurate and eye opening!

I do hope I've given you enough information but if you need any more please feel free to get to simply take advantage of the free get to know you session - that's what its there for!

I wish you well, maybe see you soon and take care.
Sara.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience - here's a snapshot

I have worked as a teacher (HLTA) in a number of primary schools teaching across all subjects and in particular social and emotional development (SEAL). I have supported children with SENS including those on the autistic spectrum in schools and also in therapy.

I have worked extensively with domestic violence, both victims and perpetrators, anger management and childhood sexual abuse.  I work with clients suffering from the after effects of impactful belief systems in childhood. I also work with the intense issue of  shame.  I have extensive experience with those displaced through war and refugee journeys. Relationship difficulties and family dynamics.

These are some of the key areas in which I have extensive experience but as an experienced counsellor working with social and emotional needs for over 20 years there are many life issues which have resolved in my counselling practice.

I'm also currently working for MHA in a voluntary capacity with those who are isolated and vulnerable.

Other ways of working:

Visualisation - using a relaxing, pleasant relaxation to explore your life issues in a symbolic way, if you choose we can include ego strengthening to help you feel stronger and better about life. I am trained to work in this way, its a powerful way to make life changes, this can be a one off session or a 6 - 8 session course or longer if you prefer, afterwards we use simple sketches and work with your imagination to gain understanding so that you can move forward in your life in a way that is useful to you.

Shamanic Psychotherapy - enjoyable visualisations and creative exercises to develop your self awareness and connectedness with the world/universal general wellbeing skills and strengths building your inner strength and self awareness for a more balanced you. I am currently extending my training in this field of psychotherapy.

Creative Therapy - this is really useful when words are too painful to express. It's a great way to work with very difficult and painful emotions. Don't just think of painting weird pictures (though some of my pictures are weird) there are so many different ways of working if you are interested and open to the process it's a very powerful way to gain understanding and make change. These can be one off sessions, or you might have a session, reflect, book another session when you are ready, reflect - gently paced powerful therapy.
