About me

I am an experienced Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working within the NHS and also in Private Practice. I provide both short term and long term therapy offering both individual work and Couples Counselling.

Whether you are in the midst of a crisis, experiencing feelings of dissatisfaction, anxiety, depression or are wanting to focus on a specific issue, I provide a safe and confidential setting in which thoughts and feelings can be discussed – free from judgement or prejudice.

My approach is integrative which means I have been trained in and can employ several theoretical counselling approaches so I am able to adapt to the needs of each individual person.

My practice is situated in Ilkley on The Grove with a discreet entrance at the back of the building. The offices are a short walk from the train station with parking nearby. I can offer daytime, evening and weekend appointments.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated with a diploma in Relational Counselling and Psychotherapy and I also hold a diploma in Person Centred Counselling. I am a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I am bound by its ethical frame work for excellent practice and work in accordance with their guidelines.

I have previously worked for Bradford Counselling Service working with both adults and young people and I also worked for the Samaritans. I was also a Child Mentor with Mosaic and set up and managed the BIG Lottery funded ‘Family Survival Project’. My previous work experience is in business. I have worked in the corporate industry for over 15 years and also owned my own business prior to changing careers. I therefore understand both business and corporate environments and the pressures for those who are working within them.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
