Dr. Sara Breinlinger, PhD, Dip.Psychodynamic Mar. Th. BACP(M), BSCPC (FM)
I am a qualified psychologist and relationship psychotherapist of many years experience. I have a wealth of experience in delivering counselling and psychotherapy services for individuals and couples in both private, NHS and community based settings.
I offer both time limited (or brief) counselling to focus on a particular issue or a longer process of psychotherapy which explores in more depth what shapes your behaviour, thought processes and emotional experience. As well as drawing on my extensive training, I also bring my compassion, respect, warmth and honesty to our work together. I provide a confidential, non judgemental environment where you are free to explore any issues that you choose to bring.
There are many reasons for wanting to begin psychotherapy or counselling. People often consider it when they feel distressed, are having relationship difficulties, are struggling to find ways of coping with the stresses of daily life, or are trying to find meaning and purpose in their life. A recent, or current, crisis is often the catalyst, but many people come to take a closer look at issues that they may have been struggling with for some time.
You needn't be clear about your own reasons. One of my aims is to help you, perhaps for the first time, to fully articulate and understand those areas of your life that feel difficult, painful, unfulfilled or stuck. This is often the first step towards being able to make your own choices about how to bring about change in your life and in helping you to come to terms with those things that you cannot change.
My therapeutic approach draws on a range of theories including psychodynamic, Mentization Based Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I do not believe that counselling or therapy is a one size fits all and during our initial sessions we can decide together which approach may be helpful for you and the difficulties you are experiencing. I work holistically, which means taking into consideration all aspects of the person's life. In therapy this means being mindful of not only the emotional and psychological aspects but also the physiological and the wider social world, our relationships, history, culture and spirituality.
