I am an experienced counsellor in dealing with people who suffer from stress, anxiety and depression. More and more these issues are affecting people from an early age and my client base ranges from students and older people of all ages.
These issues are difficult to face alone and without help from someone who is equipped to enable you to cope and find ways to manage these all to common issues in our society today. I use a range of skills and techniques to help you feel better and empower you to carry on managing your life challenges long after our work is done together.
I also deal with many other problems life presents us with (these are listed in the other areas of counselling section). I draw on all my skills to help you deal with your difficulties whatever they might be.
I guess you maybe browsing this website to see if you can find a person to talk to about how you are feeling?I know this can be a daunting process and trying to find the right therapist for you can be hard work in itself. With that in mind I always offer you a free thirty minute consultation where we can meet and see if we can work together. This will allow us both to get a feel for how our work might evolve.
Finding a counsellor/ therapist that fits with you, is like giving yourself the chance to understand more about what might be getting in the way of, or holding you back in your relationships and life. If we work together, then I think there is a good chance we can find a more desired path for you to follow.
I will be honest with you… being in counselling may not always be easy, but in my experience as a professional therapist, therapy can be extremely beneficial and life enhancing.
I am down to earth, with a sense of fun. I believe laughter and tears are part of life, although the measures may vary of course. I believe in kindness, but I will challenge people in a respectful way, if that at times, is what the work we do together needs. My experience enables me to deal with difficult issues, so if things get tough, I will take great care to ensure you feel supported and secure throughout our work. You are in safe hands.
How I work
I am a person centered humanistic therapist, this means I will do everything I can to enable you to feel fully understood, accepted and not judged. I will offer you a safe and secure place to explore what is going on for you - helping you to recognize your own potential and further your personal growth. I will hold the boundaries around our work at all times, which will build up a safe haven for you to have in your life for as long or little as you need me in it.
I use a combined approach to counselling and therapy, it is called integrative counselling, which just means I use different elements from various therapies to ensure our work is meaningful and effective. Integrative counsellors do not feel there is one single approach that can work for everyone. So when I work with you, I may be using a range of approaches and techniques depending on what is needed.
You are the focus at all times and drive the work, although we enter into a partnership with you in the driving seat, I sit next to you and guide, not give advice, not tell you how to live or what to do, just offering you the benefit of my experience and knowledge to enable you/us to work out how things can get better for you.
My work background and clients
Currently my working background is as a counsellor, alternative therapist and careers coach, before that my working history was in social work and nursing.
My work has taken me into the depths of human need; therefore I have come across a wealth of issues, starting from people not really knowing why they don’t feel ok, they are just unhappy (this is very common way to feel by the way) To thoughts and feelings that have taken people to the brink of despair including serious addictions and suicidal thoughts or attempts and deep personal loss. I can usually work with what people bring to me, but I also know when I cannot and if there is a more specific need I cannot offer, I will find someone who can help you.
