About me

Welcome... As a counsellor my role is to encourage and actively support mental wellness and if you suffer from anxiety, feel sad or depressed, but are not sure why, then we can explore together why that might be and help you change how you feel for the better. It is normal to need to talk about how you feel, so there is no need to feel alone in this.

Much of my work is with people who suffer from anxiety, (GAD) and depression. I also specialise in addictions, childhood trauma and people going through life transitions. My client age range is varied and I understand life can be difficult at any stage of life.

I use a range of skills and techniques to help and empower you to carry on managing your life challenges long after our work is done together.

I always offer a reduced rate initial session to allow us both to gauge how we feel about working together.

I will be honest with you... being in counselling may not always be easy, but in my experience it can be extremely beneficial and life enhancing.

Me

I am down to earth with a sense of fun. I feel laughter and that tears are part of life. I am genuine and believe in the value of kindness. My experience enables me to deal with difficult issues, so if things get tough I will take great care to ensure you feel fully supported and secure throughout our work together. You are in safe hands.

How I Work

I am a person centred humanistic therapist... all this means is I will do everything to ensure you feel fully understood, accepted and not judged. I will offer you a safe and secure place to explore what is going on for you - helping you to understand and manager your feelings and further your personal growth.

I hold the boundaries around our work at all times so you feel safe enough to deal with issues that come up and resolve them.

I use a range of techniques and theoretical approaches to offer you the best possible chance of finding a way through your difficulties. It is called Integrative Counselling.

You

You are the focus at all times, although we enter into a partnership with you in the driving seat. I will sit with you and guide, not advise, not tell you how to live or what to do. I will offer you the benefit of my experience and knowledge to enable you to work things out and move on.

My working background

Currently I have my own private counselling practice, but prior to that I worked at the SWAN Project as an addictions and general counsellor. I am also a career coach and ex social worker.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an MBACP counselling Practitioner & CAPPP Memeber (Counsellors & Psychotherapists in private practice). I am also a Careers Coach & MBTI Personality Profiling Specialist.

My other qualifications and training which are listed below, may at differing points be helpful to you. As our work unfolds we can start to find out which type of approach will help you the most.

  • Diploma in Integrative Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling
  • Qualified Career and life Coach (including Myers and Briggs personality Type indicator profiling MBTI)
  • Reiki level 2 Practitioner
  • Mindfulness Certificate and a member TM community (Transcendental meditation)
  • Qualified Orthopaedic Nurse

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
