Sandra Spenceley, UKCP
I am a qualified and registered Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist and have been working in Teddington and the surrounding areas for over 10 years. As an Integrative practitioner my interests are working in an holistic way integrating mind and body including thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I offer indoor and outdoor therapy.
It can be difficult to contact a counsellor for support and arriving at this page is a good start. Here I share some of how I work.
Working with Individuals
My aim in working with you is to help you talk about your concerns, be heard and understood. As you talk and reflect my hope is that you begin to feel better. You may also notice patterns that are problematic in your life. With my support we think together about what you would like to be different and how to change. I keep your health and wellbeing in mind. However, I respect your autonomy and the choices you wish to make for your life. We can work short term, up to 6 sessions, or long term.
Working with couples
I offer short term couples work - typically up to 6 sessions with a review session 6 months later. In the sessions we explore what brings you to counselling, the different perspectives you hold, any underlying issues and explore possible ways forward for you both now as a couple. My hope is that communication will become easier between you and your joint decision making will incorporate respect for your similarities and individual differences.
My own self exploration and development enables me to be alongside people struggling with many different concerns in a respectful and authentic way. Please contact me to discuss how I may help you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I initially gained an Advanced Diploma in Counselling, which included couples work, before completing my psychotherapy training at the Metanoia Institute. My psychotherapy qualifications include an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and a Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. My work is regularly supervised by a fully qualified and experienced psychotherapist.
My psychotherapy training is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), a leading professional body for psychotherapy in the UK, and the Middlesex University, and I follow the UKCP's ethical guidelines.
As a UKCP member, I submit an annual plan for my Continuous Professional Development and courses I have attended. This year so far my CPD has focussed on enhancing my couples practice and developing my understanding of body psychotherapy.
My experience includes working as a volunteer counsellor/psychotherapist in training within the NHS, including the Queen's Medical Centre in Richmond, Kingston Bereavement Service, Kingston Women's Centre and the Wimbledon Guild. I have worked in private practice since 2009.

The assessment fee for individual counselling is £25. At this assessment we explore if working together will be helpful to you. There is no obligation for you to commit to counselling at this stage.
Agreed contracts for individual ongoing sessions are charged at £60.00 per session.
The assessment fee for couples counselling and ongoing contracts is £65.00 per session.
I have a few low cost places for people on low income and students. This applies to both individual and couples counselling.
Once your weekly session is agreed, I will not offer this place to anyone else and it is for this reason that client cancellations are charged. Charges are not made when I am unavailable e.g. holidays, sickness.
Prior to retraining as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I had a career in people management in organisations within the public, private and not for profit sectors, as well as consultancy. I have particular understanding of work place stresses, the challenges of work/life balance and the tension between human fallibility, personal and organisational standards.
