I am a qualified experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor working in private practice. My approach is collaborative and exploratory, working to throw light on the ways you interpret experiences and situations, which are usually strongly influenced by past events and how you experienced and originally made sense of them. By recognising such patterns in our lives and understanding what triggers them, we are better prepared to work out more effective ways-of-being that can help us lead more satisfying lives. I can also suggest many practical ways of achieving relief from distress and addressing pressing concerns while gaining insight into these patterns. One powerful way of resolving past distress that continues to affect our current experience of life is EMDR therapy from which most clients can benefit. However, establishing a trusting and genuine relationship with clients is the fundamental bedrock of my therapeutic work, without which progress is unlikely.
Training, qualifications & experience
Before training as a therapist, I worked in education with young people and adults of all abilities and many backgrounds. Since completing counselling training in 1994, alongside this Shropshire practice, I have worked in charities, Further and Higher Education in the Midlands and Wales, and for 13 years in NHS Mental Health Services, for the last eight years as Adult Psychotherapist and Family Therapist in a community mental health team. I am also a qualified clinical supervisor and an experienced counselling trainer.
I have undergone training in many different models of therapy and all of them inform my work, according to clients needs.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
