About me

Hello, and welcome to Handley therapy.

I'm a qualified, BACP accredited counseller in Person Centred Counselling, CBT, hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis. I'm also an EMDR therapist. As well as in person, I can offer you telephone or online sessions via Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp.

Above all, I offer a caring, friendly setting for you to break free of what holds you back, and find your own path forward.

Counselling explores a number of issues that effect our lives. From day to day living to life changing events, counselling can help you find your path out of the woods. It can help you find direction, process past life experiences, and cope with what experiences are on their way.

Counselling can help you to gain insight into yourself, to help you express yourself so you are heard by those around you. For you, this might mean feeling happier or more content, more relaxed or at ease with yourself, or it might mean feeling more hopeful or optimistic about the future. Regardless of which issue you bring to a session, counselling has a knock on effect on the rest of our lives.

Each client is different, with different issues, so each session is tailor made to you.

In the consultation we will discuss what is troubling you and what outcome you are aiming for. I can then build a session, or group of sessions, to best suit you.

I work in a person-centred way, which means that you as the client are the expert and will know what is best, the therapist is there to guide you through your feelings and find the answer that is best for you.

Along with this I also use some CBT, and visual therapies. Hypnotherapy is also an option.

I have practiced therapy for over twelve years, and have worked in areas as diverse as generalised anxiety disorder, bereavement, alcohol abuse and counselling children in schools. I have seen a wide variety of clients and have been able to help them through many issues.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I also specialise in analysis, using hypnotherapy and counselling. This is an effective method for anxiety and other issues with deep seated causes.

I mix modalities, often using CBT style 'homework' to keep you focussed and exploring your issues in-between sessions.

I am a qualified supervisor to post graduate level and offer supervision for student counsellors and qualified counsellors.
